If you're going to ride through LBL, on the north side of "The Trace" (The Trace is the name of the road running through LBL) their is a place called Patti's Settlement. This restaurant is one of the best in the south, try the 2" thick porkchop, and a must eat if you're in the area. There is also a Harley store around the corner from the restaurant.

There is a Motorcycle Museum in Red Bollin Springs. Very small town, East North East of Nashville. Several good roads that would take you from LBL to Red Bollin Springs, and then on over to the Dragon.

I'm from Nashville, but I second the recomendation on Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson in Maryville, TN. It's a great dealership, and depending on when you're there they have some awesome parties there.

If you happen to be looking for a room once you get close to the Dragon, I recommend this place. http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwest...ertyCode=43139

It is not only a biker friendly motel, but it's biker owned, and biker operated. They have bike parking, bike security, and a special year around rate of $58.00 per night for bikers.

The route you take might very well take you in the Crossville area. If it's lunch or dinner time, and you like BBQ, there is a great BBQ place just on the eastern edge of Crossville on Highway 70. I don't recall the name of the place, but it will be on your left if you are going east on 70 out of Crossville. Very old business, and the building shows it's age, but it's a good place, and biker friendly.

Oh, I almost forgot, another place for a clean no frills place to spend the night is the Two Wheel Inn over in Robinsville, NC. It's just east of the Dragon. They have an attached motorcycle garage for each room. http://www.twowheelinn.com/

The day is finally almost here! We are leaving tomorrow morning. I am taking my laptop, so if I find any spots where I can connect I will check in on the forum. Excited!

Phil,

After you go through Maggie Valley and the Wheel of Time museum, take I-26 up to Johnson City TN. you will not BELIEVE this " freeway". It winds up through the mountains. Go go Elizabethton, and take 67 up to Mountain City and Laurel Blomery (around Watauga lake). GEOURGOUS!!! Don't miss Jonesborough (11E south of Johnson City).

The wife and I drove over there this last weekend. We drove, because we wanted to be able to get a lot of info. We are looking for "retirement" property there, and have picked Doe Valley (between Mountain City and Butler) as our first choice, Jonesborough 2nd)

Have a fun and, most important, safe trip. Please post some pics and ride reports for us. My wife and I are taking a similar "unplanned" road trip in July. We are leaving out of northern Ohio and riding down to visit my neice's new house in Charlotte NC and then....wherever. Probably the Cherohala Skyway and whatever else we can find to get into.

Well we made it to the Land Between the Lakes. We had a couple of side tracks looking for a friends grandfathers grave and we met a couple of friends in illinois for lunch. Heading into Tennessee tomorrow morning. Will check in again tomorrow.
