Tennessee Trip
Several of us are doing a Tennessee Trip this June. We are starting out on Saturday, June 16 in Washington, MO. The first day we head through Illinois and will make it to the "Land between the Lakes" in Kentucky. Then the next day we will start working our way across Tennessee with no pressure. Sight seeing! We are going to stick to secondary roads and only do 2-300 mile days. We will stop when we see something interesting as we are not going to be on a schedule. We plan on getting to the Dragon Tail sometime and then maybe over to Maggie Valley. Isn't there a MC museum there? We will work our way home the same way.
Any suggestions of places to see or stop atare welcome!

You gonna motel or camp?
Fall Creek Falls outside of Pikeville is a neat trip: http://www.tennessee.gov/environment...ls/index.shtml
There's a 'back way' from Pikeville up the mountain to get to it, that'll tune you up for The Dragon. Bring your walking shoes and swimsuit...

A suggestion for some great roads if you're riding towards the Gap. After LBL go to Dover TN. Take Hwy 49 to Hwy 47 south @ Charlotte, TN. Next Hwy 70 to Nashville, TN. Plenty tosee and do in Nashville. If you want to bypass Nashville, take I-24 eastto Murfreesboro, TN. There you can see the StonesRiver Battlefield. From Murfreesboro take 70S to McMinnville, TN. From McMinnvilleHwy 30 southwill take you all the way to Athens, TN. This is a fantastic road if you like hills and curves .As mentioned,Fall Creek Falls is a must see.FromAthens it's a short distance north towards the Gap.

Make sure you see Townsend (take a swimsuit and tube the river), Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. Being from Maryville, TN (there's a great HD dealership there), I'm a little predjudiced. It truly is a gorgeous area. The people are great too.

Since you're moteling, I check into some of the cabins at the State Campgrounds. They tend to book up in advance so a bit of planning may be necessarry. Fall Creek Falls Parkhas them, along with Cumberland State Park. Cumberland puts on a real good Buffet dinneron Wednesdays, its worth a stop at, and a short ride from Crossville.
Also, the Ocoee River. Take the rafting trip. Warning: You WILL get wet. Change into swim suits before boarding the bus! It's just a bit south of The Dragon. A great way to cool off!
For a little more 'history' there is the Sgt York house, and historic Rugby. Both off routes from I40 and can be done in a big Loop. And don't forget The Jack Daniels Distillery either. But beware: There are lots of areas of TN that are 'dry'...If you've got the hankerin' for a 'nip in your room later in the evening....Plan ahead.

If you happen to be on U.S.127 at some point, in the Jamestown area, and you are looking for a place for the night, I recommend the Jordan Motel. It's a Mom and Pop out of the fifties. It's cheap and biker friendly. On 127, about five miles south of Jamestown. On down 127 is Crossville, where you can take U.S.70 east to the Knoxville area, or go south of Crossville a couple of miles to the "Cumberland Homesteads" tower and take Tn.68 over to Sweetwater and the Tellico area. Cumberland Homesteads is right by Cumberland Mtn. State Park. Go on down 127 furthur and you enter the beautiful Sequatchie Valley. Pikeville is straight ahead and then Tn.30 takes you up and out of Sequatchie valley and on toward Athens. There are a lot of great roads around this area.
