Question Moki Dugway ?

I have a trip planned this July. Leaving NY to Colorado, Utah. I have been wanting to do the Moki Dugway but have some 2nd thoughts. I will be loaded up with camping gear on a Ultra Classic. I was wondering how many out there have done it with a loaded up bike. I will be staying at the San Juan Inn that night but will be arriving with a loaded bike. I was thinking of a side trip hitting Moki Dugway to get to Mexican Hat. I see it is hard pack and some pebbles. I have been up Mt Washington in New Hampshire multiple times and it is hard pack dirt for like the last mile or so. any help or ideas will be great. Jeff

I Rode up the Moki packing double a few years ago, no problem. Its hard packed and paved in the switchbacks. Definitely worth the trip.

I've done it 2-up and loaded without any problems.
I believe the sharp corners are paved, rest of the road isn't.
Stay in low gears and use your engine braking.
Don't get in a hurry.
You won't regret it.

I rode the Moli/Mokee 2 up a couple of years ago. You said you were going from the Moki to Mexican Hat so that means you'll be going downhill. Be judicious in your use of front brake, take it slow and easy and you'll be okay.

I've done it in a cage, the only thing I would watch is the weather a day or so ahead of yourself, give yourself a plan b if it rains! It's a cool ride down the hill!

If it rains "DON'T". I prefer riding up rather than down. Gives you a little more control. The road is very hard packed gravel and dirt, and the serious curves are paved. As I recall it is 3+ miles from top to bottom. There is not a lot of traffic, but meeting a car or truck with a boat is a possibility and it is a narrow road.

You are the one that knows your skill level under these conditions, so only you can decide if it is for you.

My wife and I rode down the Moki. We ride two up, we were fully loaded. We didn't have any issues, however, I'm the guy that rides his dual sport bike 100 mph down the gravel backroads... sideways, drifting. lol.

If you take UT-261, is the Moki Dugway section 'optional' ? Or part of 261 itself ?

Check this out!

Several years ago we were on a car club trip and one of our group wanted to meet up with us so I routed him his way.
He was pulling an enclosed trailer and he actually thanked me
