What are you running for a computer?
Quickly I'd say updates and restarts.
I'm assuming something windows based but I'm a Mac guy so ...
Sometimes removing the Garmin plugin might work or use a different computer if available. Also there are some cords that don't work with my Zumo as well. If you've used this cable before then that's just a variable to eliminate.
Lastly if the damn gps gave up well--- I know the 595 (or whatever the new one is) will cost you your right leg.
Good luck but I'm suggesting restarts and different cables first.

Man I am in the same boat, worked fine for the last 2-years and now this..Tryed a couple different computers and different web browsers and still the same error message. And if you try the manual mode and save it as a gpx file as soon as it comes up on the gps it automatically recalculates the route however you have the gps set to..IE shorter distance or faster time, have tryed to call garmin a few times but dont have an hour or more to sit on hold...I have the Zumo model and have a crap-load of money in this setup and really dont want to spend another $600 plus bucks on a gps that may only work for a couple of years and then garmin decides to no longer support it
.I was thinking it was operator error on my part, due to my limited computer skills, but after numerous searches on the web it looks like its not.
I also have a Garmin 660 that I have used for a few years on my old touring bike and now my smaller Dyna. Lately, when I plug the unit into the computer, for it's updates, the Garmin Express program doesn't recognize the GPS and nothing I do seems to make any difference.
Last time it happened, I deleted the 660 from my list of Garmin GPSs I own. Then I reopened the update program and it was able to see the unit and installed the updates.
The cable that Garmin uses is a usb to computer cable according to a couple of different cable producers.
I don't know if this helps but it's all I've got and I'm sure it won't hurt to delete and reconnect the GPS to your ride planner. You might also try changing the setting for shortest distance or faster time to destination.
Good Luck

Has not worked since the beginning of January 2017, spoke with Harley about it several times, their common answer was it has never worked, I got tired of explaining to them that it has worked for me with my Harley 660 RT Zumo for the past 5 years thru to the end of Dec. 2016, they said they would check into it, I have not heard from them since my last conversation with them at the beginning of February.
I got fed up enough and bought a 590 RT and learned how to use 'Garmin Base Camp' and I'm very pleased (offers a lot more options and when I layout a route in base camp I get the exact route in my 590) the Boom Box / Infotainment GPS does not play well with computer planned routes, have been using a handle bar mounted GPS since 2011.
