Thanks Redbank. My bike is shipping to San Diego 17 August. I will fly out and ride back leaving San Diego 9 September. Once I get that trip behind me I will start firming up my 2018 Alaska plans.

Nope nope nope. Got out of the Army in 2005 and decided I would try to make it as far as I could coming down to the lower 48. My wife was driving the truck and trailer behind me. Got to about just past Destruction bay. The entire road was dirt. I guess it was supposed to be two lanes in both directions. Well after about the 4th semi hauling *** past me I said **** that and loaded the bike in the trailer. NO guard rails to protect you from going right off into the bay. The ****ing truck drivers are insane how fast they drive that damn road. Of Course I was on a Kawasaki 800 so wasn't the best bike for much of anything. **** just driving a pick up with a trailer down the Alcan is bad enough.

We went up in July, 2008. On the way up at Muncho Lake lodge we saw two couples on bikes and one of the guys kept saying turn around, don't go to Alaska. LOL. They had got a lot of rain the whole time. His wife also had her arm in a cast.

My buddy had to head home for an emergency when we got there. I completed the trip alone. Had some sprinkling rain around Denali and Fairbanks. Nothing I would consider heavy. 70 degrees down South around Anchorage and Valdez. Only major road construction was a long stretch between Tok and Fairbanks. Watered down, made a mess from the slurry.

Best trip ever. I only had 28 days for the 14,000 mile journey but it was awesome. I'll be going back some day I hope. If I can get Canada to let me back in. http://s376.photobucket.com/user/One.../Alaska%202008
