Some of you guys gave some great info on our "guys trip" to Myrtle Beach this summer and I'd now like to know if anyone can recommend a good, safe, place to stay in or near Charleston, SC for 2 nights?
I'll be with two cousins and we're at the point where it makes sense to park the bikes and take the tour buses to see the town and the places where we need to go.
In for seafood (or any good food) scenery and cold beer!
We stayed across the bay in Mt. Pleasant at Patriots point at Quality Inn. It is at the base of the bridge back over to Charleston,a short ride. We found the hotels in Charleston to be too expensive and some even charge to park. At Patriots Point you are on Coleman Bvd and just down the street is Shems Creek with a couple of seafood restaurants and bars. They had sand parking lot but don't let that bother you. Patriot Point also where you catch the ferry to Ft. Sumter. When you go to Downtown Charleston, find the visitor center. You can park there and do walking tours or find the different carriage or van tours. We were turned away from 2 pay parking lots because they did not want bikes. At the third which was next door to the second one the attendant was waving us into his. He knew of their policy of no bikes. You probably can find free street parking at the end of Bay street at the Battery, but then a long walk back to Downtown. If you ride your bike around the downtown area beware of side streets made of rocks that were once ship ballast. They can be a hoot to ride over or not. The only place we ate in Charleston was a bakery for coffee and sweet rolls.
Swig N Swine. Good BBQ and if you get the family platter there is enough to feed several grown men for under $50. Several craft beers on tap and a list of other good beers.
I would definitely check out Mt. Pleasant, much cheaper than in town Charleston. With the money you save you have to eat at Hymans, excellent, the shrimp 'n grits are quite famous.

This is the second recommendation for Mt. Pleasant.
I'll have to discuss it with my two cousins and go from there. Thanks.
