I've eaten a lot of trout from just below Bald River falls outside Tellico.

This doesn't help you with the roads, but it will give you a nice place for lunch on your ride on the Cherohala. From Tellico Plains, the Cherohala ends in Robbinsville. Lynn's Place is a "can't miss" lunch restaurant. Good ole fashioned Southern cookin' and priced right too!

The Riverstone Restaurant in Townsend is great. The Patio in Madisonville will serve you the biggest plate of spaghetti you ever had.

I love that entire area up there in NC and TN. I have friends that live in Tellico and they have taken me on rides that are simply breath-taking. As I have told others in the past when they ask for ride suggestions: Always carry a ballpoint pen! Walk out of your motel/house in the morning and put the pen on the ground, then give it a spin. Whichever way the writing tip of the pen points, THAT is the way you ride that day.
I'll guarantee you this, you NEVER have a bad route. LOL!! All the roads in that area are great!!

One of my favorites is Wayah Road that runs along Nantahala lake between Murphy and franklin area, Rt 64 along the Ocoee river, 30 and 315 through reliance Tenn. The list goes on and on.

In Tellico there are 2 museums right in town worth checking out I believe they both are free. While there stop in the Tellico Bakery for a quick bite.
Also a ride to Helen Ga or Dohnlega, Ga for a day trip during the week. Wayah Rd out of Franklin, Nc is a good ride, Highlands, NC for ice cream is a good day. The Devils Triangle would be by last choice is time is an issue.

Murphy isn't far from Blairsville and Helen GA. Just outside of Blairsville is Brasstown Bald, highest mountain in GA. You can ride most of the way to the top and then walk the rest of the way. Amazing views from the observation deck. Near there is TWO (Two Wheels Only) Motorcycle resort in Suches. From there it's a nice ride to Vogel State Park near Helen. They have a great buffet. Or you do the whole thing in reverse. The breakfast bar at Vogel is unreal.

All the roads in that area are great, we spent a week there 3 weeks ago, stayed in hiawassee ga, beautiful country and friendly people, averaged about 250 miles a day, worth the trip

I was reading on trip advisor about this place and it sounds great but I do have a question about the road to the parking area. Just how steep is it? I have done Pikes Peak and Mt Evans in Colorado and those were steep. How does this one compare?
