Default White Mountains NH area

Looking to do a couple of nights stay around the white Mountains area, anybody have any recommendations on where is good place to stay?

Not looking for anything fancy but something decent.

Thanks

I stayed here last year for bike week, http://www.northconwaygrand.com/#gref I really liked the location. They had a good discount for bike week with a huge tent to park under. I liked it because it was a modern hotel, not a run down old place.

Try calling Briarcliff---tell the lady you have biker friends that stay and recommend ,she usually gives a break[from web posted prices]

It,s not fancy--it,s clean--but older motel-we usually pay between 100-130

Good Luck RockerNH

We have stayed at 2 places that really cater to the golf courses across the street from the hotels, but both were reasonable & have convenient locations for touring the White Mountains. Jack O'Lantern on Rte 3 south of Lincoln or the Town & Country on Rte 2 just east of Gorham. Try the Yankee Smokehouse in Ossipee at Rtes 16 & 25 for good food & a lot of it. Actually there was a motel across the street from that restaurant that was okay. I can't remember the name, but it was a Red Roof, Motel 6, or Econo Lodge type place.

Thanks for the info guys, so. Ended up booking at Hillwind lodge in Franconia.

Next Question... any roads I should hit up there, I've did the "Kanc" before and that's pretty much it around that area

116/115/302/2 are all good---I believe 117 near Sugar Hill area was widely affected by storms so maybe avoid that area---try 116-2-113 in Maine down to 302 and back to where you're staying--weather permitting Mt Washington auto road[off 16]

I've got friends up that way, and they showed me the "Loop". From Franconia take Rte 3 South to Lincoln, west on the Kanc, Rte 112, over to Rte 16 in Conway. Turn left, north, on 16 & just north of Conway take Rte 302 east to Fryeburg, ME. Keep your eyes open on the north side of "downtown" Fryeburg & turn left on to 113 north which travels along the NH & ME border. This is not a well known route, but its a gem. Turn left, west, on US Rte 2. Left in Gorham to Rte 16 south. Mt Washington Auto Rd is on this route if you're interested in that. Stop in Jackson (16A) for a photo op at the covered bridge. Rte 16 is just a stones throw from the bridge, head south on 16 again. Turn right at intersection of 16 & 302, taking 302 west past the Mt Washington Hotel (Cog RR up Mt Washington is near the hotel) and through Crawford Notch back to Franconia.

If you're into Outlet Shopping stay on 16 north outside of Conway. 16 & 302 will combine on the south side of North Conway, which used to be a pretty little town, but now is an Outlet City with all the congestion that comes with it. Does have some pretty good restaurants though. Continue through town on 16 & 302 and you'll end up at the 16 & 302 split. Take 302 west back to Franconia as described above.
