kinda echo above. I thought I would come ready to hike or jeep if i went back.

That said, we did about every road we could that was surfaced. Many meant coming back out on the same road. Keep you tank topped off. I loved the trip. Just way out there. 250 mile tank would have been better than the 100 I had then.

Side question... Marfa blue lights? Anything to these? Always regretted not hitting up the border agent we chatted with about info on that. Sat and talked with him on 67 north of Presidio for awhile till a car came up behind us. Neighbors in the rv park told us about them the next morning. They went back to watch There was a pullout and sign on the side of the road between Marfa and Alpine.

I think that “way out there” feature of the Big Bend desert country is a good bit of the appeal.

And those Marfa lights....I suspect they’re like those deer whistles seen on front fenders of Gold Wings. If you believe in them, they’re real. On one ride out to that turnout north of Marfa one night years ago we pulled in for a beer stop. Looking to the south we saw something strange and thought finally we had some action. Turns out it was a young couple in a ‘55 Buick Century, 3-speed on the column, that had come screaming out of Ojinaga, MX headed to Montana for a new life chased by the Border Patrol. Had a recent change of plans and will be back down there in a couple weeks and will report back if I see something.

I had an experience there about 10 years ago. We were way south of Marfa (in Big Bend) when the following occurred. A group of us backpacked out of the Chisos Basin via the Pinnacles Trail into the mountains for a couple of nights. We camped on the South Rim, looking out into Mexico. That night we were sitting on the rim looking out into Mexico when we saw several lights darting in every direction. Moving way to fast to be a vehicle, changing direction to fast to be an aircraft. Thought about signaling them with flashlights but decided maybe we didn't want them up on the rim with us. Saw the same thing the following night.

Moral of the story is the lights exist.
