Th wife and I are going to Daytona bike week in a couple weeks. We've narrowed it down to either cackelberry campground or fast lane campground.
Has anyone stayed at either one. Pros or cons of which one?
It is a bit out in the country and there are bands playing in the campground as well as the cabbage patch... it might be, depending upon the alignment of the planets, the biggest party campground in the area...
Personally, I am not a big fan of the Cabbage Patch but there are plenty of people who think its great. I like to party out on US1 but you have to be safe with how much beer you drink before you go back to your camp. There are campgrounds just down the road from the Iron Horse etc. if you like that area and if you are wanting a party I would check those out...
If I stay at the cakelberry I'm going to rent one of their trailers.
Going to tent anywhere else. Driving down from central Canada with the bike in the box until I hit some warm weather

One thing that's hard to get used to is many people go there to hook up with friends and the rally is spread out all over NE Florida. People go there to see old friends and they have their favorite places because Daytona threw the rally out a few years back and that let the cats out of the bag... and they will never get it focused back entirely in Daytona. I have never seen it as crowded these days as it used to be in the 90's. You can ride down the coast to Cape Canaveral and see rally stuff all the way down and back, for example. You can go to Disney and they have Mickey and Minnie Bike Week pins. You can go to Don Garlits' museum and come down to Orlando and get swamped by the traffic (tourists, South Americans, and old people mixing with bikes.)
Personally, I like the ride from Jacksonville to New Smyrna on A1A.
Once you have been there about three times you are an expert looking for the unfound treats. I like Main Street Garage, the home of The Living Deads and also Microwave Dave and the Nukes. I think the wings at South Turn Lounge are the best... they are grilled over a fire. I suppose you have to go to Rossmeyer's where a lot of the vendors set up but if its hot out you can smoke an engine and your inner thighs sitting in line... and then there is Main Street at night but park your bike early and ride out in a buddy's car or cab to other things to do until it turns dark. Sometimes there are a good crop of vendors at the Speedway... and there are races to see there. There used to be some races put on by AHRMA (historic racing motorcycles) that I really liked but they have been spotty lately.
Crackelberry/Cabbage Patch Is a hot spot and very popular party place with lots of stuff going on such as ladies cole slaw wrestling, bikini contests, bands and vendors.
Cheaper beer than main street and a good place to party after exploring downtown main street and various other locations and be able to walk, stumble or crawl to camp.
Don't expect to get much sleep until morning.
I will be camping at a friend's property about a mile from there.
I have not stayed at Fastlane but hear it is popular also and a little cheaper than Crackleberry. Be aware it is located in Deland, about 30 mi. West of New Smyrna, so a little more travel time to get to Daytona and Ormond Beach.
Buddy and I decided last minute to make a little of bike week. We'll head out Thur morning with bikes in the camper and will stay at Cackleberry. Maybe next year we'll plan it earlier so we don't have to drag the camper last minute.
If you want to party all night long, Cackleberry Campground is the place to go. Fastlane is at the Volusia County Fairgrounds, another 10 miles west of Cackleberry.
If you don't want to put up with noise all night long, you may want to check out Holiday Trailer Park on Old Dixie Hwy & I-95. I've heard they go 'quiet time' around 10 or 11pm. Its right at the end of The Loop, one exit north of Destination Daytona and only a few miles from the Ormond Strip. Also Bulow Campground off the same exit of I-95, on Old Kings Rd. Push comes to shove, Thunder Gulch on US1 in Bunnell is maybe 15 miles from The Iron Horse, Beaver Bar, Broken Spoke, Smiley's Tap & Annie Oakley's (Ormond Strip).
Unfortunately this years trip to bike week will be canceled for me due to work related issues. I'll do it next year.
I will be headed down after bike week now and to the Florida keys ten back to martinsville Va for the NASCAR race.
We will be traveling with the bike in the box of the truck to martinsville from Canada. Unloading there and riding down to the keys. Staying a few nights then back to martinsville for the race. From there we will be heading to the tail of the dragon and to Nashville for a few days. Then gotta load up the bike and head bavk to Canada.
Thank you to those who replied. I will be using the information you all gave me for a wicked trip next year.
