The Parkway is a great road. I went on a trip with some friends last year and rode it from Cherokee to Ashville. The highest point of the Blueridge Parkway Road is in that stretch. Lots of scenic views points, a few tunnels. Make sure you bring a jacket. Temperature drops once you get up there. Here's one pic I took.

One of our biggest treats was the blackberry cobbler that they served at the little restaurant down the hill from the Bluff's Lodge (now closed as far as I know).

We stayed at the Lodge on two occasions and really enjoyed it. Hope the they find someone that will re-open it.

We've been stopping here and they have some very good grub: http://www.virtualblueridge.com/park...ce/mabry-mill/

We just camped on the parkway over the holiday weekend. Just did the first 70-ish miles as it poured rain most of Saturday.

OK, I can probably come down I-79 from Pa - Morgantown WV.

My 2 cents.....I don’t know how much time you have to spend, but if you are traveling on I79 from Morganton, I would travel to Cherokee and get on the parkway around MM 460 on the reservation. I would travel the parkway to about MM 320 in the Linville Falls area. You would be traveling, in my opinion, the prettiest sections of the parkway.

BTW, The highest point on the parkway is near MM 430. You could choose to visit Cherokee, Deals Gap, Maggie Valley, Little Switzerland, Mount Mitchell State Park (the highest point east of the Mississippi River and at it’s peak you can see 5 states)Linville Falls and Linville Caverns, etc. There are so many things to see in the area, I wouldn’t spend all my time on the BRP.

I would return via I 40 and 77 (near Asheville - see Biltmore House) and get back on the parkway in Fancy Gap VA. And visit Chateau Morrisette Winery. From there drive through Meadows of Dan and get on 58 to get back on 77 outside Hillsville. And of course there are many, many things I am forgetting and I hope others can chime in or correct me and add their thoughts.

My wife and I have ridden the entire parkway a few times and doing again end of June. Check out freebornes in Laurel Springs NC. Jus off the parkway over VA/NC line. Motel rooms restaurant and bar. On the weekend that place is pretty packed with bikes good biker vibe. Also up around Floyd VA Tuggles Gap Motel right on parkway. Very rustic rooms again restaurant and beer in the coolers. We have stayed there a few times. We say it's like camping in a motel room. Tuggles Gap chocolate cream pie is awesome!!!
