Several of my friends are riding in the Hoka Hey this year. Interesting to note that one rider was sitting at a dealer for several days waiting for a new engine to be shipped in since his cam bearing went at 70,000 miles and trashed the engine
#943 is an interesting dude, but I guess they all are given they’re riding this event. Came across 943 looking through Scotty Kerekes’ FB page. Goes by Great American Road Chip and Kerekes was interviewing him as another biker living off his bike and camping most of the time. Looked him up on the tracking app and see he’s westbound closing on on Gillette, Wyo. The leading riders look like they’re west of Cody. When I say leading riders my understanding is this isn’t a race...no 1st, 2nd prizes, etc., just finisher recognition. I think the Spokane Harley dealer is a checkpoint and it might be interesting to putt over that way to see what some of these whackos look like.
That guy "leading" must be an animal. Every time I look he's always moving.
I went over to the checkpoint at the Spokane Harley dealer Tuesday and was told that guy had about a 20-hour lead on the rest. They showed me the route sheet handout for the final push to the finish in OK from Spokane which the riders receive when they arrive in Spokane. 99% 2-lane stuff with many route changes. Navigation devices for the purposes of loading gpx files of any route segment is cause for a DNF. Riders sleep whenever they want but next to their bikes. Imagine how grim that would be in the hot, humid sections of the South in July.
