Default Need Opinion From a WV Rider

5 bikes heading down to Bridge Day in a few weeks. (Think we can get 3 days in a row without rain?!!!) Gonna go through Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum on Friday, and staying at Hampton on 33 (toward Elkins) for 2 nights. Riding down to the bridge on Saturday morning.

Heading back to upstate PA on Sunday. I was there by myself last summer, and rode 33 to Seneca Rocks, up to Spruce ****, 28 to Petersburg, 42 up to 50, and then north from Cumberland. Great ride. I've been to Blackwater Falls too.

Is this a nicer ride than 220 all the way to Cumberland? I've been on the above route, but nobody else in the group has, and it was a nice enough ride that I'd do it again. Just wondering if there's something from Seneca Rocks to Cumberland that you'd suggest, other than 42 up to 50. 28 to 42 to 50 to 220 was a great ride, and I'd do it again. We wanna be back to upstate PA before dark.

Well I live in VA but I used to live over in WV (I was over on 219/39/150 just yesterday) and I might have some ideas. Are you leaving from Elkins on Sunday morning or you staying down by the bridge Sat nite? A lot more options if the latter. I have been thinking of running over to Bridge Day this year as it has been several yrs. Thing keeps getting bigger and bigger. You can PM me if you want.

Thanks kap. Yup, we're staying near Elkins for 2 nights. It's that Hampton on 33 between Elkins & 79. Rooms & decent rates are hard to come by, the closer we get to October, so I made the reservations in May. We wanna be back in upstate PA before dark, so I figured we'd just ride back up 79 on Saturday afternoon. Save some time on Sunday a.m.

I know we're gonna ride 33 to Seneca Rocks, and then I was trying to find suggestions for the nicest ride up to Cumberland MD. I really liked 42 out of Petersburg, up to 50 east, but just wondered if anybody liked anything else better, up to Cumberland from Seneca Rocks. We'll be on 220 from Cumberland, almost all the way home.

We'll be parking at.the Midland Trail High School on Saturday, and then taking a school bus shuttle to the bridge.

I wouldn't have any suggestions other than your planned route since you are already heading to S. Rocks. Have a good trip.

From Seneca Rocks to Cumberland consider taking 55/28 north about 12 miles then left on Jordon Run over to 42 (bypassing Petersburg). Left on 42 which will take you up the mountain to Mt Storm and Rt 50. Then 50 east down the mountain. Jordon Run, 42 up to Mt Storm, and 50 down from Mt Storm are all nice.

Just thinking.... another better option would be after Jordon Run and turning left on 42, at Scherr turn right (not on 93 which is right there too) but a little road Greenland Gap. Take it a ways to maybe the second paved road on the left Knobley Road and follow Knobley (County Rt 3 which changes to 9 in the next county) all the way to 220 near Cumberland.

Thanks Ridewva. (I think you & I have talked before.) I've seen Seneca Rocks, been up to Spruce **** lookout, and ridden 50 twice into 220 & Cumberland, but nobody else has. I found that most of the time in WV, ya can just pick a road, and it's probably a great ride! I love it down there. Haven't been down yet this year. I did the 5 hour Cass train ride last year, and stopped at Blackwater Falls on the way home. GREAT country down there.

More than welcome Glidr. Enjoy your ride which ever roads you choose. For up and down curves, up the mountain to Mt Storm to Rt 50, then east down 50 is nice.
Yeah the Cass train ride is fun. That whole area around Cass is nice riding.
