Or go straight up the middle for a quick trip.
Serious heavy traffic up the middle.

For an adventure trip, try following old US Hwy 77. It was the main N/S road prior to I-35 being built and kinda parallels the same route. Only time you get on 35 is between Waco and Hillsboro. Lots of old towns and the SuperCollider site.
281 is a nice ride. If you want a little longer ride take 380 from Denton over to 75 then up 121 to Westminster and eat a damn good burger at Big Slick's Bar & Grill.
