Default Ft. Worth to Tucson

Planning a ride from Ft. Worth to Tucson, AZ and want to stay off the interstates. Does any one have experience with roads in West Texas especially HWY 380 and 180? Thanks.

I've rode 380 from Denton to Roswell there's not to much to see a few cool small towns it was better than the interstate.

I didn't figure there would be much to see in that part of TX as far as scenery goes. More interested in road quality and towns along the way. Thanks for the info.

US380 has good pavement all the way. There is construction just west of Denton. I think it's a nice ride, too. Rolling hills most of the way until about Post then it's flat until you get into NM.

The areas around Ruidoso and Cloudcroft, NM are really nice. If you have time, take a day and ride the roads around there.

You can take 380 all the way to I25 then up to Socorro NM. 60 west out of Socorro to Datil then look at 12 south to Reserve. 180 south out of Reserve to 78 south of Glenwood cross into AZ.Then 191 to I10 at Wilcox. I have been this way a couple of times roads are good and you get to see a great deal of the Gila below Datil to Glenwood.

I've ridden both from Arlington to New Mexico. They're very similar, there's just not much to see until you get well into New Mexico. Both have good pavement and the little towns are spaced about every 30 miles it seems.

I can appreciate the fact that you want to stay off the interstate, but...

the stretch of I-10 from Van Horn to Tuscon is some of the prettiest most relaxing riding Ive ever done. Love that part of the country.

Don't forget to stop in San Antonio, NM. for burgers. Two of the best places in the state right there..

I'd love to go to Arizona but the way my shoulders hurt after 100 miles, going that far would be a killer.
