Default Unusual request

Hello from Germany,
this fall, I want to make a dream come true and ride with my wife on our own bike from D.C. to Houston.
Well, here is my problem:
Shipping a bike from Europe into the U.S. is not a big issue, the tricky point is getting insurance.
I have found an insurance broker, who will provide coverage for my trip. But this broker won`t ship the paperwork of the insurance documents to Germany, neither to a hotel or a company. Now I`m looking for somebody, who might receive these papers and send them to my hotel (Marriott Dulles AP).
Insurance is one of the prerequisites for getting the bike out of the CBP-Office at Dulles Airport.
Maybe one of you can help me to realize this plan by providing his address?
Thank you very much
Ernest

Save your money and do the fly and ride. A lot cheaper to rent a bike here.

[QUOTE=Harley58;18500311... do the fly and ride...[/QUOTE]

I have rented bikes many times from Eaglerider, or directly from a Harley-Dealer.
But let me tell you, why I want to go this way at all costs: In the coming weeks, my bike will turn its tach to zero and I want to celebrate this (for me) special event on american roads. I would like to hit the 100,000 kilometer somewhere in the southern parts of West Virginia, or in the Missouri/Arkansas border region, just showing my bike the land, where it was born.
By the way, no rental bike can compete with a ride on your own bike!
I`ve got me a Rand McNally, a Butler map, several free brochures from tourist Offices, fed my Zümo with US-maps and I have read tons of interesting posts here in the Road Trips-section. Applied for an international driving license, international registration, EPA- and DOT-admission for my bike and ESTA-papers for me and my wife. I have organized (but not yet paid!) the air transport from Europe to Washington D.C. and the shipping back home by seafreight from Houston/Galveston to Germany.
As you can see, I did my homework, but insurance is still missing and long story short: No insurance - no ride.
Time is running out, but I don`t give up yet!

It appears money isn’t concern here.
that being said surely you could find a third party broker or law firm in Germany or the US to procure these insurance arrangements rather than seeking the aid of a stranger on a public forum.
something doesn’t add up....imho

Look for a new Insurance broker.
Or
Find a messenger service that will pick up and deliver your paperwork.

Why won't they ship the documents?

I did a test booking on Eaglerider`s Website and a three week rental period (including one way fee, model guarantee, insurance, taxes etc.) summs up to 5000 $.
My plan will cost me roundabout 4500 $ and (I have to admit) a innumerable amount of time organizing all that stuff.

Good point! But did the nephew of the king join hdforums.com? I joined in 2007, when I bought my first Harley. And I can only say, that I have two dollars something waiting for you to cover shipping costs of the documents to my hotel.

I was told, that they need an virtually garaging zip code to calculate the premium policy. By shipping the documents there, it is insured that it isn`t a fake address on which the premium is calculated.

Try to get the papers sent to a small town. Insurance will be the cheapest. Any bigger sized city will have a bigger premium attatched.

You should be able to get a General Delivery address at a Post Office in the US .
