Default yellowstone lodging

Decided to take some extra time to ride though Yellowstone on the way to Sturgis next year. Was thinking maybe come in from the south entrance and go exit though beartooth pass. Looking at hotels around the south entrance in Jackson. Prices are INSANE. 300 dollars a night aint happening. I'll have camping gear but will probably be getting in late and getting up early and really don't want to mess with it if possible. I'll be on the ground all week at the chip. Any recommendations?

In about August 2013 several friends and I did Yellowstone and Glacier through Beartooth. In Jackson we stayed at a Motel 6 and paid $187 for a room for the night. It was the most expensive Motel 6 I have ever paid. It's all about supply and demand. You can however avoid staying in Jackson (or West Yellowstone) by staying south of Jackson the night before and north and east of the Beartooth. You'll only save a little, though. Camping is probably your best bet.

Anything within a day ride of Sturgis, during the rally is gonna cost big bucks. And you likely won’t get a night orctwo only. Try campgrounds.

If you camp in YS, better have a good sleeping bag. Make your reservation early depending on CG. Expect it to be around 30 degrees in the morning. Last year I took a fleece blanket for a little extra warmth.

On a trip last Sept, my wife and I stayed at the Motel 6 Jackson WY. Older but clean and friendly, I would stay again, might check prices.

Recall 1 year riding up from the south through Rawlins and stayed in Dubois, Wyoming. That highway from Dubois to Moran is a nice one. That would give you the option to turn south and check out Jackson and then ride up through Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP and out to Cody. Then in the morning attack the Beartooth via Chief Joseph.

Cody is real nice and Grey Bull ain't bad either.
If the timing is wrong and you want a room after a ride through going out on the Beartooth Cooke City is nice and might be less money than South East or West entries.
I've ridden Yellowstone 4 times over the years and stayed different places each time.

I have camped in Cody. Very reasonable. I have also stayed at The Irma Hotel just for the history. I don't think it was too bad. Maybe $150 or less IIRC. That was also about six years ago.
