A few guys from Michigan will be exploring the Athens area as we heard of the "Ohio Windy 9" and well, why not. What I have read all of the 9 routes start/end in Athens area. Anyone local know of a secure lodging option within walking distance to a brewery or good bars and good food? If you can recommend something we would appreciate it.
Keep in mind Athens is a college town. ( I graduated from there) not a hole lot of lodging right down town other than the Ohio University Inn, which is nice. Plenty of hotels out on State street and all are safe and some decent restaurants down there.
I would also recommend staying in Marietta Ohio, its a fun little town as well and near the end of rt 555. Stay at a hotel called the Layffette hotel, right down town near plenty of breweries and wineries.
Make sure you stop at a little bar in Hocking Hills called Jumbos it a great little biker bar in the middle of some of the best riding.
"Ohio windy 9", Awesome thanks for that
I've rode Hocking Hills for years and ride an almost identical route as #3 Hocking Hills Nipper, https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...TankBagMap.pdf
These are the most beautiful rides anywhere in Ohio.
My wife and I went down with another couple and rode for a few days. As suggested we stayed in Marietta. Found a nice AIRBNB that was walking distance to many bars and restaurants in Marietta. Was very happy with the lodging and location. Our place was a block away from the Harmar Tavern, famous for fried bologna, and another restaurant, and two blocks from a foot bridge that went across the river into downtown. Worth a look.
Stayed at Fairfield Inn and Suites in July 2019! Nice place! They made us a pretty good deal for 4 nights lodging for 2 rooms!! Walking distance for good Mexican! Otherwise we did a lot of dining while out riding! Good Luck with your choice!!
