Albuquerque hotel, restaurant, and bar advice needed
This years trip I'm planning will take us through AZ and NM. The ride is in mid-May and there will be at least twelve of us.
I could use some suggestions for our one night in Albuquerque. Specifically, what area would be good to stay in that's close to decent places to eat and drink? Suggestions for hotels, restaurants and bars would be much appreciated.
Holiday Inn Express on Alameda is about a block from the HD shop. I have stayed there. Nice enough and just off of the Interstate so you can get to most places easily. There are several Casino Hotels that provide nice accomodations. I would stay away from the places on South Central. Little seedy in some areas. There is also an area called hotel row just off of I-40 that has several motels with several places to eat within walking distance. Owl bar and grill is in this area and the burgers are good. Kind of a 50's thing.
If you like mexican, try Sadie's or El Pinto. There is a Brazilian Grill downtown, I think on 2nd Street and Central, that I like.
There is a Best Western in Old Town that is nice. This is right down town and there are some nice places to eat within walking distance.
I like to use google earth to scope out areas I plan on riding through. It has options to show places of lodging, eats and drink establishments. By hovering the mouse over each icon it gives you the option to see reviews and usually a link to that places website for further review.
Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated and really a big help!

I don't know if they are still there, but try and find a Garduno's Mexican restaurant. There were at least a couple in the ABQ area the last time I was there. Their food is great.
STONE FACE TAVERN
Best food I have ever tasted and the bouncer kept an eye on our bikes. Very nice fellow and a very nice bar/restaurant. I know we will go there again when we travel west.

Glad I came upon this post! My wife and I are planning the same trip from So. Cal. and we're also going in mid-May. We're stopping in Flagstaff, AZ for the night on the way to Albuquerque, and Winslow AZ on the way back. We'll be in New Mexico for about 5 nights. Not sure yet where we're staying. Are you riding from NY?
I wish we had the time to ride from NY, but it would take a good 4 days out and then 4 days back, so we're flying into Phoenix and will rent from Chandler HD and spend 5 days riding AZ and NM. Looks like there will be around 14 guys from NY/NJ on this years trip.
Since you're going to Flagstaff, have you been to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley? Great riding and great sights.
You should also consider staying in Santa Fe when you get to NM. It's a real nice town.
