Default HD Ride Planner

Hi,
Riding a 2018 115th Anniversary Ultra Limited. I have a question about the HD Ride Planner. I've used it a lot and it seems to work much better than it used to. Now I've run into a problem using it. Anyone know if there is a limit to the number of rides you can create? Or the number of locations or waypoints? I've created 15 maps and when I begin to create my 16th map the planner freezes after selecting the Start location. Been doing that all day. Any ideas? Thanks.

Also, I've yet to find any computer based free road planner software tool that creates .gpx files compatible with my 2018 Boom Box system. Only the HD Ride Planner works. Not interested in a phone app.

Thanks,
Twotone

Smile Ride Planner problem solved.

I read in someones elses post that they used Microsoft Edge for accessing the HD Ride Planner. So I tried it and it worked. For some reason Google Chrome became incompatible with the HD Ride Planner. Funny it worked for making 15 maps. I tried using Chrome again just to see what happened and the HD Ride Planner froze again. So I'll use Edge in the future.

The documented waypoint limit is 99 per route. I've had trouble with far fewer so I only create routes with 40 or less.

I've also found that having more than 3 routes loaded at a time can be a problem. So on long trips I take my flash drive and load routes to the bike and remove routes from the bike

Too many routes or too many waypoints causes boom to lock up and require a reset

I have a 2015 limited

One other thing. I found that if I ran CCleaner on my laptop, it cleaned out Google Chrome temporary files and now Google Chrome lets me create routes again. Just something I needed to figure out, but now everything is fine. Thank you for all the commented. You inspired me and you were a big help.

I use My Route App for creating my routes and haven't had any issues with the amount of routes I load on my bike. I know I've had more then 15 routes at a time, without any issue.

After leaving Basecamp and flirting with the HD planner, I went with Myroute. Works well.

Has anyone using Myroute tried to delete a waypoint once the route has been uploaded to the BoomBox?

I use my route app, too.
There are 4 'export' options now:

gpx 1.0
gpx 1.1
HD Boom (prior to 2019 = 6.5)
HD Boom (2019 and beyond = GTS)

So maybe some of the output formats are "less verbose" than others. I also assume that the GTS radio (2019 and beyond) is better at handling routes/waypoints than the 6.5 on my 2015 Limited and has eliminated some limitations or at least increased the limits.

I almost got burned once ............... the night before leaving on a long Route 66 trip comprise of 18 routes, I found that my Boom locked up, so I broke my trip into 36 routes, each with 40 or fewer waypoints. Then I tried to load them all and it filled up Boom. So I've gotten into the habit of breaking up my routes accordingly AND I only load about 3 routes into Boom, which it typically enough for a day when the routes contain so many waypoints. I then delete from Boom and import from the flash drive.

Once you've loaded the route into Boom, you cant really "delete" a waypoint ................ but you can tell Boom to 'skip' a waypoint and move on to the next one. (click on the 3 horizontal bars on the right side of the Boom screen and there will be a 'skip' option)

But be careful on a 2014-2018 Boom ............... unless the latest Boom update fixed this ............. when you go to skip a waypoint, Boom will ask you to confirm the skip .......... and instead of showing you the waypoint name that you assigned when creating your route, Boom will show the longiture/latitude. This can be frustrating when skipping multiple waypoints (like to skip a chunk of your route - its not easy to tell when you are done skipping). See link for a demo of this

I would LOVE to know if the Jan 2020 Boom release fixed this (waypoint NAME vs longitude/latitude). Its winter in MN, so will be awhile before I can try this.
