I've done lots of riding in the rain. I wear gear that advertises itself as waterproof or water resistant. My boots are waterproof. On overnight rides I always carry rain gear in addition. But during much of the year most of my riding is done on Sundays. And my rule generally is I don't leave the garage if it is raining or almost certainly likely to rain. I know how to ride in the rain and stay dry. But riding in the rain is not fun, so I avoid it when I can.

Ridden in the rain like everyone else, when on trips. Dont do it normally though, as there really is no point. Been caught in some severe thunderstorms a few times. THAT isnt fun.
I keep two plastic trash bags and some Nitrile gloves with my wet weather gear now. Learned that the first time (I dont like waterproof boots)

For me, there's a big difference in getting caught in the rain vs leaving when it's rain but I've done both plenty of times.

Have been to ALL states but not all on a motorcycle, but I did ride to AK and I did ride in HI !
Got the "Hail Storm" experience on I-75 up around Linwood Road back a long time ago ... No where to hide either .... That crap can kick your a$$ :<(

A few days ago I left Hill City, it was overcast but clear and 42 degrees. I drove up to Sylvan Lake to go fishing, by the time I got to the entrance fog was so thick I could only see a couple hundred feet. As I started to the lake, a hard wind started blowing sleet so I turned around and left. As I'm pulling out a couple rode past on an Ultra all geared up. There are some very dedicated riders coming to the Hills.

On my last trip to Nelson B.C , the weather was perfect until the last day , when we were set to head home . The first 4 hrs of the trip ( Nelson to Fernie ) was a complete down pour , after that it was just a light rain . When we arrived in Lethbridge , all I could think of was stripping out of all my rain gear and grabbing a hot cup of coffee .

There's nothing like cruisin the twisties through the mountains in the pouring rain .

I have been wet several times. Here is what my wife and I do. We never leave home in the rain. If planning a trip - we decided if it is raining, we will wait it out. Once we get started, if we get caught in the rain, then we gear up.

On the road is a little different. If in the hotel room, and ready to leave, we usually look at the weather radar in an effort to determine the best time to leave. If an all day rain - then we just try for the best time

When I was on my Alaska run in ‘017, It rained off and on most of the day on my way from Stewart On the West Coast of BC to Dease lake, and then rained off and on most of the day from there to Whitehorse … But I was pretty lucky... really the only rain I saw For the 10 weeks I was out, except for the week I was in Vancouver where it rained like five days in a row, but that was parked at my daughters and the bike was under wraps the whole time... but the rain did chase me all the way from Fairbanks to Ontario, caught me there for a day, but I stayed at a buddies place for a couple nights and by the time I headed back west it was dry again.

Into the Yukon on Highway 37, Just a couple miles south of the Alcan and a left towards Alaska... The Harley rain gear really proved it’s worth.
