Completed my SS 1000 on May 23rd.....16.5 hours and we dicked around a little on the return trip....I was originally going to get the 36 hour BB but thought since I've been on this LDR kick doing 3-500 mile rides a couple times a week anyways why not try for the BBG....if I fall short I'll still get the BBS or BB....

Great plan! After reading your original post I mistakenly thought this was your first IBA certificate attempt. Looking forward to hearing how it all works out for you. Good luck. I’ve been a fan of IBA and the IBR for years. Impressive group of riders and organizers.

Heading out in the morning to attempt this finally...highs of 70...lows of 50...no rain along the route and just got some chaps today to help keep me from freezing...installed heated grips earlier this week....going to be heading from Indy west to Springfield, IL south to Jackson, MS east to Birmingham then back north to Indy....

Got back a little bit ago.....was gunning for the BBG but around 11pm it got so cold we could barely take it.....my hands were only half functioning they were so cold and I could barely lift my leg to shift gears ....couple that with the roads in Alabama that were under construction there were several places that had asphalt lips and such....rolling as fast as we were we decided just south of Nashville to call it a night since there was 4.5-5 hours to go.....did 1200 miles in 17.5 hours...and while I was keeping track we beat our SS time by an hour and a half....woke up this morning and finished her out but not before getting drenched for about an hour in Tennessee....learned some things....my bike definitely doesn't mind humming along at 3k rpm's....we are going to attempt the GOLD again next year when it's a little warmer....

Who here has had their bike airborne before? ME! Not all construction bump signs are created equal....this "bump" was like a speed bump at the airport....on the highway! Both of us got airborne....I'll never forget that!!!!!

Congratulations on the ride. It's close enough to wonder that my planning has begun again. I'm over on Vancouver Island so just damp riding I suppose.

Glad you're safe and made the solid judgement call. I did the I5 IBA in February (28) and it was alright. Thanks heated jacket.

I'm looking forward to a BBG attempt myself next summer. 2020 was a write off with Covid.

Anyhow - if I get too curmudgeon I'll end up in the POD. Ha ha.

Anyhow - good work.

H

When I did mine, I was on a ZX12R...geared for 221. (But, I never went over 170.) Just lumbering along...
I have many friends that have done BBGs and back to back BBGs on Harleys.. Plus there are usually 8-10 riders in each Iron Butt Rally riding Harleys.
And of course there is the Hoka Hey which is all Harleys (and Indian/Victory) which is normally 10-12,000 miles with most riders completing in less than 2 weeks

I have 287,000 miles on my 2006 Sporty (206,000 on original engine) and have done many back to back LD and IBA rides including 3 Iron Butt rallies, a BBG, 100CCC, SS5K, and countless 800-1200 mile days during rallies.

You are an anomaly Chris and I can't imagine doing all that on a Sportster.
Actually I can... my first Harley was a Sporty. My friend had a Road King and we did a road trip where the last leg was pure highway miles from GasPoint-A to GasPoint-B... I vowed to him that I will never EVER do that again until I get something with a fairing. And before you say something to downplay yourself ... you DONT have a fairing, you have a small little Sporty windshield. You are the KING in your class.
