Default Iba bb 1500

Anybody in the Midwest or particularly Indiana or the surrounding states thought about the BB 1500? Im thinking about attempting it either the last Monday of June or shortly after the July 4th weekend on a weekday....my goal is to go for the gold level ride but if it gets to trafficky or I get too tired I'll settle for the regular level...in case you don't know the BB gold is 24 hours...silver is 30 hours and regular is 36 hours....if you're solo and want to join up it'd be great to have another rider on board...to hit the gold level it's gonna be a stop-gas-go scenario....not for the faint of heart or weak minded! Lol....

Having done countless SS's as well as the BB and the BBG, you can do the SS with others. Not a big deal. You can knock off a thousand miles in approximately 17 1/2 hours.

But when you doing the BB, you will find you need to move right along. Someone lagging in the group, or an additional bike which means possibly a mechanical issue just doubled… I am not so sure two or more for a BB is such a good idea.

For the BBG, I do not support doing this any other way than solo. The timing has got to be impeccable. The refueling comes down to a science practically. Any little blip is going to blow the BBG. As I understand it, each time you add a person to a LDR, you start to increase mechanical issues and a natural slowing down of the ride.

GOLD rides cannot have a hitch. They are WICKED FUN!!!!!!!!! But the timing and routing has to be impeccable.

I certainly wish you luck no matter what you decide to do. I would be behind you supporting you 100%.

IMHO,
BC7

Good points....I originally thought about a solo ride...and I guess if you don't make your goal there is nobody to blame but yourself....I've mapped out a couple different routes and I think doing it during a weekday will help traffic wise...

Yes my friend.

Have you checked out the A.O.W.? (Archive Of Wisdom.) If not, I will be happy to link you to it.

Your line of thinking is bull's eye perfect. Also you want to stay on the super slab the best you can. And do not go down one side of it and then up the other. That is strongly discouraged. More of a triangle will work very well.

And of course, always run a little longer mileage wise. If you are doing a thousand miles, you want to make sure you do over 1000 miles. IBA takes checking your route very seriously. If you use a mapping system that shows you went a thousand miles and IBA checks your route and comes up with 999 miles, you will not be getting the SS. Know what I mean? So you want to make sure you run another longer than whatever your goal is.

Man this is so much fun, as I am sharing this with you I am getting all kinds of excited… LOL!

I can't imagine doing a BBG on a Harley. Seems like flogging the engine to maintain those speeds, for that duration. No wonder riders that usually do this, either rent a bike for this, or trade them in, after the deed is done.
When I did mine, I was on a ZX12R...geared for 221. (But, I never went over 170.) Just lumbering along...

3k rpms isnt really flogging....it actually hums right along at those speeds....a zx12r?!?!?! Eff that noise! Maybe when I was 20....sport bikes aren't comfortable at all...and yes I've had them in the past and when I grew out of that phase and switched to motards and street fighters I couldn't have been happier....my park bench of a seat is so comfy....I just keep changing positions every 20 minutes or so to keep from getting too irritated from one seating position....after the last couple of days of riding in this hot humid weather I think I might wait until September or October....I'd rather wear a jacket then have my sack sticking to everything in sight....97° on the return trip today and I couldn't get naked fast enough!

Seems like I recall the IBA won’t certify a BBG without the rider previously getting a SS100 or a BB cert. I think their logic was the BB Gold is such a challenge they don’t want riders getting in over their heads. So if this is still part of the rules, the best you could get 1st time out is a BB or SS.

Aaaahhhh...............I am not so sure that is right.

You can ask them. They are good in getting back to people.

I got my BB and BBG at the same time.

To go right to the BBG to me is a mistake. At least have an SS under your belt 1st I.M.H.O.

The "G" in BBG is pretty serious business. If one does not know how to properly stay nourished and have their stops down properly and have their root proper, getting the "G" is going to be one major event.

For those who have their SS and BB, the "G" is still very admirable.

But again, IMHO going straight to the "G" in my opinion is highly undesirable and flirting with danger. <-- Yes, I would go that far.

I would suggest to whomever, walk before you run.

Lastly, it is better to have several smaller successes before you reach for the "Gold".

When you got your BB and BBG at the same time did you already have an SS under your belt? If not, then obviously my information is dated. Their website would have the latest.

Yes my friend. I had my SS from IBA. Also have done several other SS's without the documentation.

When I was setting up the BB, a friend said why not go for the BBG?<-- That did not even occur to me. So I went for the BBG and got the BB on the way.

BOOD point mtgriz. The IBA website would have the updated info. Honestly, I have not checked their regulations for several years. Good point.
