Default Beartooth Pass/YellowStone

Planning a trip to include Beartooth Pass and Yellowstone from Sturgis. Any helpful suggestions or info for the trip would be appreciated.

Canadian Rocky sent us (well me anyway) on a visit to Medicine Wheel, located between Ranchester and Powell. It's a little out of the way for you, but in a good kinda way. Head out of Sturgis, go to Little Bighorn battlefield then head south down the interstate a few miles, get off and go to the Medicine Wheel. It'll be worth it, then head on up to Beartooth Pass, come back into Cody and spend the night.

One of the members sent me this yesterday. "No bands no venders are playing at sturgis". He had canceled his trip. just passing along what he said. Might check it out.

Buffalo Chip sent out an email this morning saying differently. I know one of the food vendors, as of about this time last week they are planning on being there

Red lodge is a pretty cool town as is Cooke City if your looking for a place to stay. Cooke City used to have some rustic cabins. I wouldn't stay in Yellowstone. Do you plan to ride throughout the park? If so, you'll ride through the Lamar valley where most of the wolves are. Get off the bike and check out the Grand Canyon. I worked in the park for 10 years but that was over 30 years ago. Plan for crowded roads and slow going. I did ride through about 5 years ago. Was 32° when I started out. Once I got to Cody it as in the 90's. Plan for anything.

When we leave Rapid City we will stop at Devils Tower and then take the slab to Sheridan for the night. Next day we are taking 14A over the Bighorn mountains to Cody. Just a heads up about Yellowstone, it appears that most of the sit down places to eat are closed, we will bring sandwiches and drinks with us the day we go into the park. Make sure Beartooth is open before you head up, if not take 120/72 out of Cody up to 308 into Red Lodge. We stayed 1 night in Cooke City 2 yrs ago and won't do that again. We stay at The Alpine Lodge in Red Lodge, highly recommend them!! Google maps is your friend, find new roads!!

I like to ride from Cody to Red Lodge, eat lunch and then ride back over. I like to see it from both directions. It is best, to me, from Cody to Red Lodge. The road from Tower Lodge to Canyon in the park is closed this year.

Alpine Inn Red lodge is the best place. Their breakfast can't be beat.

Don’t miss the Pig Races at Bearcreek Saloon in Mt on Thursday through Sunday evenings. Lots of fun and you can win some money. Of course I didn’t. https://www.redlodge.com/bearcreek/
