Default Questions about security on the road

I'm going to be leaving for a 3 week road trip soon and I'm hoping you all can help me out. When stopping for the night at a hotel, what do you do to secure your bike? I'm really looking forward to this trip but don't want to walk out to a stripped bike.
Thanks

Park it in the most lit and visible part of the parking lot.

My crew travels together, we get rooms on the ground floor, park and chain the bikes together in front of the window. In some more questionable areas, I’ve also cracked the window open to hear better. Realize if they want it bad enough, they’ll probably get it as there is no totally secure method short of parking the bike inside the room with you.

Don't worry, they won't strip it. They'll just take the whole thing.
You can sleep with your toe in the spokes, but then you'll already be on your back if a thief shows up.

I've taken quite a few big and small trips and never had a problem. I take all my stuff off the bike and saddle bags - helmet, external tour bags, clothes, tools, etc. and the registration papers - and keep them in the room. Lock up the ignition and steering. Park in a well lit place as suggested above. Some hotels will let you park under the front portico if they aren't too busy. Just ask. If it's an outside room, I park in front of the room. If inside rooms, close to the front entrance under a light.

I used to worry about that on the first couple of trips but figured if someone wants it bad enough they'll take it. That's why we have insurance. It still crosses my mind but I don't loose sleep over it.

Enjoy your trip!

I always park in front of the hotel where the night staff can see it. Good hotels always allow this.
Disk locks and a bike cover. Don't showcase what you have to steal.
If someone is taking it, LET THEM. That's what insurance is for. Search here for the horrific tale of Larry Weaver losing his life trying to stop some thieves.

Have a great trip.

Wrap your bike with a generic cover at night. Try staying in motels where your room is ground floor with individual entrances. If staying more than one night, consider renting a cabin which I prefer. Stay in small towns rather that cities. Check out the reviews where your staying. Check out the area your staying at. If there are RR tracks close by, you might want to take a pass

That's the stuff I was wondering about, sorry for the confusion. I had planned on taking the bags etc in the room, should I be concerned about the seat?

This is a good point. Took an 11 day trip in July. All the places were great but two (homeless sleeping in parking lot). The surroundings made me worry the bike wouldn't be there the next morning. I lock the forks, bags, disc lock, cover bike. Never had a problem.
Reviews, goggle maps (satellite view) gives you a look at the area. It's worth scoping out.

I have taken many long trips and at first I was concerned with theft. After a couple of trips I stopped worrying about it. Lock the bike, put a generic cover on it, make sure your insurance is paid and enjoy your trip!

I never took the seat off or the side bags. Then again I never stayed in any sketchy areas iether, thanks to my wife being at a minimum 3 star with 4 star hotel the preference.
