Cool trip. I need to do something like 'cuz Minn Wis Mich and ND are on the list of states I have never been to. Then Alaska would be my only holdout.
side story.... On the south edge of Indiana following the Ohio river once, we passed a sign, 'IDOT Lot' My brain added an 'I.' WHAT?? I had to look again. It should be full.
it was either up and over the top of WI or over to IL and up through WI, I've been to the UP, but we've never seen the west part of it
WI is going to get it's very own trip one day, though
Really appreciate the tips, folks.
I've never been to the Black Hills. I may not plan on staying there long, but that is another one that gets it's own trip one day.
Copper Harbor, Brockway Mountain Drive, The "Gay Bar" ( not that kind of gay ) Porcupine Mountains ... The Kewanee Peninsula ( which really isn't a peninsula ) It's totally separated from the rest of the Upper by the Portage Lake and river ... There's a lot to see up there :>)
Something to consider, and I really should have made this clear in my first post, but the line I drew was just me randomly picking waypoints on Google maps.
I want to hit those states, but I'm open to lengthy out of the way destinations and completely different routes. The routes chosen were those chosen by Google AI by default.

Looks like you may be taking 1 across N Minn, it will be a slow zig zag to get from A to B - a lot of scenic wilderness but it's not a great road and you won't make good time. If you do go that way, #38 S out of Bigfork is about as scenic as you'll see after you leave the North Shore of Superior. Not much to see after that.
Have you been to the Hills before ? There are enough incredible roads out here to spend a few long days of riding and not see them all ...
Oh I dont completely agree with all of it. Duluth is a fabulous stop and a beautiful city. Its on the big lake so if the wind is from the east, it might be really cold. Keep that in mind. Your trip from Duluth to Macinac bridge is very wild and rural but pretty. Northern MI is very sparsely populatedand quite pretty. Its a long *** drive though!!
You have a very nice trip planned. A lot of beautiful country. Both plains, and woods.
Tom
I see your rough map grabbed interstates... If you avoid that coming across IL (80), you will probably end up around US30 or US6 at the IN line.
If you want to shoot up the Lake Mi coast, I would still recommend staying south of Gary, Chesterton, Michigan City (the arm pit of IN) and not worry about seeing the lake until you are into MI.
If you want to go across IN for a while, take US6, US20 or US30(four lane) east until you get to 13,5,or 9 to turn North. This will take you through some Amish country and small town shops and restaurants...
