MI, WI, MN ,ND, SD, NE, IA, IL, IN - Asking for suggestions
This is the rough plan for the trip. Starting from SE MI, up through the Upper Peninsula and then over to ND. The only set destination we have is Rushmore in SD.
If anyone is from these states or have been through and you have some suggestions for great riding or things worth seeing, let me know. Right now the plan is in it's rough form.
We'll be on the road about 6 days. We did about 3500 miles last year in 6 days and decided to ease up just a bit. It was no problem riding, but we just didn't stop and check things out a whole lot.
Already starting to get excited. The trip we took to OK last year was everything I'd ever hoped it would be. It was my own "Great American Adventure".
FWIW btwn Norfolk NE and East Pointe MI, US-80 is like .
If u need to do it timewise, that is understable. Otherwise you may want to entertain US 30 just north of it. Slower, more things to see. Or something like that south of US-80.

Stop and visit Savanna and Galena Il on the Iowa border.
Looks like you may be taking 1 across N Minn, it will be a slow zig zag to get from A to B - a lot of scenic wilderness but it's not a great road and you won't make good time. If you do go that way, #38 S out of Bigfork is about as scenic as you'll see after you leave the North Shore of Superior. Not much to see after that.
Have you been to the Hills before ? There are enough incredible roads out here to spend a few long days of riding and not see them all ...
The black hills will yes, have enough to ride for 3 -5 days if you wanted to.
I would watch my *** while going from the ND border to looks like sturgis area? 1. its the reservation and there isn;t much to see. 2. I believe they still have some of the highways closed. (COVID) at least they did for awhile. Might be able to pass by the towns but stopping during a covid shut down might be a no go. so just be prepared.

Yep ... I agree ... ND isn't real scenic ... I'm sure there are spots ... I'd save my time for SD ..
Especially the south western part of the state .....you'll go back again
