So I have a vacation planned for June that is most likely getting cancelled due to COVID. I was gonna fall back on one of my favorite places. Western SD. Since I live east river and it is only a few hours drive.
I understand that there is a rodeo one weekend and Wild Bill days the next weekend but I can't find a room anywhere. Keystone, Deadwood, Hill City, I thought my state was open.
Anyobdy out west wanna help a guy figure out what is going on here?
Thinking June 12-20 or something like that.
Oh and now a potential gasoline shortage.
Starting to feel like the universe conspiring against me getting a vacation this year.
I'm going to be in Hill City with a group from the Forum June 6th-12th. Made the reservations back in January.
What part of East River are you in? My wife is from Redfield. One of her sister's is in Hill City.
Try getting hold of Rizzo, he may have an idea of where to stay.
Thanks QC. I live in Watertown.
I am just shocked that there is still that much tourism that I can't get a room anywhere in the hills. I have zero interest in staying in Rapid. I will cancel and stay home first.
How are you searching for hotels? Just for yucks I did a search on Expedia, for June 12 to 20th. At least 12 hotels showed up in the Black hills. For example:
There are rooms available in Hill City - send me a PM. I'll get you set up, might have a couple different options for you. This is going to be a very busy season in the Hills. QC's family rentals are nearly booked for the entire season. It will be busy. Another option is Black Hills Vacations at 605-601-5103, they're the Travelocity type booking agent for the region and work with most resorts and hotels.

Thanks Rizzo and QC.
I will know for sure on Monday night or Tuesday morning whether or not my Europe trip is getting the axe or not. It is most likely dead. I have never stayed in Hill City before so that would be cool. I have done Custer, Deadwood, Sturgis, and the Keystone area (Spokane Creek) but never right in Hill City.
Dang it is just crazy. I live in SD and have always used the local/regional sites to decide where I wanted to go. I really didn't expect things to be quite so packed already. I mean I know the entire country sees us as the safe getaway place from Covid restrictions but I wasn't prepared for the flood apparently.
I am wondering what this new gas shortage from the east will do to some of those reservations.
Assuming you have called...around here anyways google
says many small businesses are closed when they're not.
Yeah I have been wondering if the issue is that their webisites are not updated. Once I know for sure about my first trip I will start dialing numbers.
