Oh you just wait. At 1.5k per year over the last 12 years, you haven't had the fun part yet. Next thing you know, you may need a new tire - then it's game on.

First long road trip we took, me and the wife on our 1997 Dyna all the way to Atlanta from NYC. Lost a couple of bolts that held the tall sissy bar to the side plates, had to stop at a dealership to get some extras. Got home had lost one more. Mention this to my OLDER brother and he says:

"Since when do we install parts on a HD without using Loctite?"

Never forgot that one, older brother wisdom right there. Carry on, glad you had a good trip.

The left side saddle bag rail bolt by the side cover (easy fix).
The saddle bag outer key lock nut and locking arm came off somewhere.
The rear turn signal bar.

So just a reminder to check stuff out periodically to keep it safe .
I've found a thorough wash and detailing is a great way to go through the bike to check and make sure it's all tight before a long trip.

Thanks for the reminder. Miles of shaking invariable shake stuff loose.

Not the 1st time something fell off but definitely the costliest. I was coming back south from Alaska. I stopped near Calgary to adjust my chain. Stopped again south of Red Deer and noticed my left saddlebag had bailed. I had about a grand worth of tools and spare parts in it.

Lost all my camping gear once… The last time I trusted bungee cords… From then on it’s been tied down correctly
