Default Planning Trip to RI

Hello, I am new to the forums and new owner of a 2007 Ultra... I have a trip planned to go to Newport RI leaving from the Philadelphia PAareain a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone hasthistrip before. I am a bit concerned about going through the upper part of NYC and then along 95 through Conn. I have not been up this way in a long time but as I recall these roads can be very tuff with lost o f traffic, construction and delays. Has anyone been up this way recently and can give me a few tips to find the best route?[/align]

I'll be heading up that way from Kentucky later this month also. I hope someone chimes in too.

I would look at the Tapen Zee Bridge then the Merritt Parkway in CT. You could follow Rte 1 along the coast of CT, but this will be lots of lights and little towns. I would take 95 north to the Gold Star bridge in New London CT the rte 184 east to North Stonington, CT. From there take Rte 2 south to Rte 78 east (RI Beaches.) Rte 78 intersects Rte 1 which you take along the coast to Jamestown/ Newport Bridges on Rte 138. There are some areas along Rte 1 in RI that are worth travelling through or seeing. Watch Hill / Misquamicut, Narragansett, then Jamestown. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info...that is helpful. I was not thinking of the Merritt Parkway.. that sounds like a better route.. so it looks like you take the Merritt to Milford Ct... then cut over to 95... stay on 95 till New London and they switch to rte 184... that seems like it can work and keep off 95 for most of the trip.

I have taken that route many times. Not sure on construction, but I know it is much better than the GW bridge. There is no other way off 95 through the rest of CT unless you go 395near New London, then take 165 to 138 or 138 east right off 395. This will take you through Voluntown to Exeter then Hope valley, RI. You can stay on 138 all the way to Newport. That is a nice ride as well.

Good Luck......remember Newport hates loud pipes!!!!!!
