I've ridden a lot in that area, and can't really add anything to what people have said already. I will emphasize what people have been saying about the weather, I've also been caught in snow during the summer up there. The weather can also be beautiful. You never know in the Rockies.
In Ouray I highly recommend the Twin Peaks Lodge and Hot Springs. A great hotel with their own hot springs and a heated swimming pool. Great place to stay after a long day of riding.

Not sure how far West you are willing to go but I would suggest heading from Durango out to Cortez, Mesa Verde NP is on the way. Carry on to Kayenta Az and then up through Monument Valley. From there, head up to Moab, you can ride Moki Dugway near Mexican Hat on the way. Lots to see around Moab, Arches NP etc. Head East out towards Grand Junction, 128 is a great ride along the Colorado river.
Just be aware that the Moki Dugway is an unpaved road with a steep uphill/downhill grade.
I was planning on doing it this summer but my riding partner doesn't want to get his trike dusty!
