My wife and I stumbled upon Hwy 129 while on a trip this weekend. Sadly, due to the forecast of inclement weather that didn’t pan out, we were in her car. We shall go back and ride it on my bike before summer is over. That’s a cool stretch of highway!
Try to ride it during the week. As early in the day as you can to avoid most of the idiots. Weekends can be a pain. Any holiday even more of a pain. It is worth the ride no madder what anyone say.
While you are at it. The missing link bridge has been open a few years now. It was 52 years getting done. It is on foot hills parkway north of the Dragon but part of the route you would now take to get there. it is a sight worth seeing and riding.
If you need more information just yell. It would be ashamed to head that way and miss it.

Thanks! I could see that from our hotel room, but did not know what it was or where it went. Interesting!
There is a dam JUST below Deals Gap. Harrison Ford movie, The Fugitive(?) was filmed there. A little insignificant trivia for ya. Really nice free campground right there.

We go to ride that last year. OP. Don't get hung up on the Dragon. It's not even close to the best riding down there. The ride to Maggie Valley is the ****. Ya. Do the dragon. And as was said. Mid week. It's loaded with dipshits on the weekends. Make sure to get your pics too.
