To be fair they have been working on upgrading the U.S. side. But yeah, you have to scratch your head about that. It's a waste of a great tourist spot. In the good old days you just flashed your driver's license and they let you across. Now they're really mean and picky.

Never had a lick of trouble getting into Canada or back into the States with my enhanced driver's license. Unless someone has been busted for something or are acting like an ***, there should be no problem.

We stayed at the Anchor Motel Niagara Falls 4 years ago. Clean place and you parked right in front of your room. Owners lived on the property and had a nice spot you could use along the water.

I did the same crossing at Blaine about 15 years ago with a Canadian female border agent.
I was driving one of 5 trucks on tour with a show and we were going to a gig in Vancouver.
Things were going downhill fast and totally went to hell when she told me, " just in case you aren't aware of it, Canada is not part of the US"!
My reply was, "well then that explains why you all are so F'd" up up here"!
She went ballistic and my lead driver was freaking out because we had to be at the venue in just a few hours for load in.
We did make it but just barely.
That whole tour was a disaster.

The US side of the falls is the most beautiful. We used to stay in Canada and look towards the US.

I agree it is a little more difficult today getting into and out of Canada just an enhanced licensed does not cut it. You must register no more than 3 days (I believe) before crossing. A lot of this has to do with Covid.

Enjoy your trip - be safe

There are great views on the Canadian side but I also greatly prefer the US side, Goat Island is a very nice park and you can actually stand right next to the falls at the new observation area. Several years ago I was there and it was closed off for construction but open when we rode there in 2019.

We came in from the west, through Canada, on that trip and had reservations at a place called the Villager Lodge. The place turned out to be really weird, heart shaped tub and crummy room like some kind of honeymoon sweet from the 60's. There were some strange folks hanging around doing drugs or whatever. We'd reserved two nights but bailed after the first. That first afternoon/evening we went to the Falls area and it was crazy down there, my wife described it as Disneyland on crack.

The next day we came back across the border and after spending time at Goat Island we rode on in to Buffalo and stayed there. Not much help I guess, just relating my story but the area around Niagara Falls in NY seemed nice enough to me, in hindsight I would have preferred to stay there than on the Canada side although to be fair a lot certainly depends on how much you're willing to spend.
