I personally had few if any encounters with riders going half the speed limit. Where I did have some uneasiness was encounters with groups of riders expecting you to exceed the speed limit which my skills would allow me to do. but would prefer not. Like the OP said go at a different time which goes the same if speed is what you desire

I guess not everyone can be a ninja rider. The *** with a radio blaring you can hear 1/2 mile away 20 over the limit and can't pass a bar with stopping concerns me more. Sturgis is a waste of time anyway.

Riders can’t wait for Sturgis Rally. Prep their bikes. Some even buy new bikes. Arrange time off, reserve lodging months in advance,
Ride thousand mile to get there. Or haul their bikes instead of riding them.
Get there and rant about about a Rap band, crowds, prices, other riders, noise.
Max out their credit cards buying souvenirs. Don’t even stop at Rushmore.
Return home. Then can’t wait to go back next year.
It’s Sturgis!

OP, I agree but you cant fix bad intentions.
I went 2016 the year after anniversary **** show. I thought the riders that year were great and is was not over crowded. The only incidents we saw were a couple of bikes getting pulled over.
We rode needles with a hangover and no sleep from our 1300 mile run. I did see some great women riders that year. I heard 2015 was crazy crowded with a lot of newbies. Someone can chime in on that one.
I ride to work in the cesspool to LAX and test myself on something everyday (intentionally). So I understand to OP but OP needs to listen to the Smashing Pumpkins song ...Rats in a cage. the more people or rats are put in one place -
the more tension, stress and expectations from others. That's why our ride to Sturgis was the focal point and Sturgis was just a 2 day stop.
I have realized I don't like people anymore but most of you guys are alright from a distance.
OP here's to another 30 pack and I prefer Tequila.

To those that bash Sturgis, here’s a clue. JUST DONT GO.

We had a great time, and it seemed everyone we encountered did too. Yes, we saw some ******* things, but as a ratio no more than I do every normal day.

Last time for me was its 75th. Over 1 million there.
Rode there with 2 sons. Met up with family and friend from all over US
Had a great time. Just know how to adjust. When Sturgis got too crowded we rode Badlands, north of Spearfish, Wyoming.
Best time was a small town in Wyoming that had 1 bar. Bloody Marys, steak and eggs. Best beef I ever ate.
Rapid City HD Bier Gardens.
Sometimes it’s about the journey. Not the destination.

Great memories. Would go again but circumstances aren’t the same.

I totally agree with just don't go. We went for the first time last year and have no desire to go again. Just to busy for my liking and at 72 I don't see my mind changing
