To those that bash Sturgis, heres a clue. JUST DONT GO.
We had a great time, and it seemed everyone we encountered did too. Yes, we saw some ******* things, but as a ratio no more than I do every normal day.
Some people have to be a pain in the *** the minute they leave home.
No matter where they go.
Last time for me was its 75th. Over 1 million there..
Yea, they lied to you - 2015 747,032 Vehicles.
The actual number of visitors is really far less, the guests that stay at the campgrounds east of town have to pass through the counters each time they want to get to up the hill. I was talking to a Board of Tourism member and the real number of individual guests is around 50% or less of the official attendance that went through the counters.

Man, it's hailing like a **** right now.
Do the numbers include the people who stay outside Rapid City & dont ride through Sturgis
We didnt go all the way into Sturgis because it was stop and go at every stop light. Bikes over heated so we pulled out.
Deadwood was the same.
We spent most of our time in Hill City, Custer, Spearfish. Rented a cabin away from crowds.
Still had a great time

I still have my weather app set to give me storm warnings for the area, and I got a severe thunderstorm warning a few hours ago. Hope you didn’t get any damage, but glad we didn’t have that during our travels to & from and while there last week.

I stayed on the east side once ... Pain in the a$$ to get back through town even with the short cuts ... Sturgis is what you make of it ... Made a few friends there
The official vehicle count as I was told was only coming into the city of Sturgis only and the city of Sturgis also monitors trash and uses images according to what I've read and they use a combination of those things and adjust the official numbers. I've seen the traffic counters in other areas, a lot of riders don't go into the city or do for just one day. They have a method to calculating the visitors to the area but it doesn't seem to be very accurate.
No damage from the storm but it was a serious cell. My buddy did get caught in one coming back here on Saturday evening.

The numbers that pass through the meters in/out of Sturgis is used
I can tell you every bar, parking lot and gas pump outside Sturgis was jam packed. Rapid City, Hill City, Custer, Spearfish,Keystone.
Rapid City HD was selling bikes like they were going out of style. Vendors and bier gardens had a long waiting list
DOT estimated overall traffic in Black Hills at 1million.
But still had great time. Wouldn’t have missed it.

You didnt mention trikes. It seems every time there was a line of bikes a mile long on 385 or basically anywhere in the hills, there was a trike up front riding 10 under.
Just pull over and let people by. No reason to haul ***, but if you look behind you and there is a line of bikes stretching to the horizon and none in front of you, well, you might be riding to damn slow lol.
