I am riding to Laconia this year from Ontario, Canada and am looking for suggestions on best route, things to see en route and best place to stay. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thinking about going across Peace bridge and across Rochester, then coming home maybe up to Montreal and across top of Lake Ontario.
TIA.
Just did some of that ride a couple of months ago, in reverse. From the Peace Bridge stay on Route 20 all the way across NYS to Cooperstown. Really nice riding in the hills. Cooperstown was a great overnight stop if you like Baseball. You will also be passing the Finger Lakes, Watkins Glen always a good stop. Lake Seneca in general can be a weekend. Go hike the Glen Gorge.
From Cooperstown continue past Troy (stop at Dinosaur BBQ for food) than hook up with Route 9 to Brattleboro. From there 9/202 into Concord, than get yourself over to Route 106 North, this will take you all the way to the Weirs. Stop at Makris for the southern end of bike week and get yourself some Chowder.
When you get to Laconia I prefer to get on Route 3 bypassing Laconia and going right into Weirs Beach.
Give it a look on a map, these directions are a little vague but I think you can figure it out. Montreal on the way home via Vermont is also a nice ride. Stay off the Interstates and you will be fine.

I go to Laconia regularly and we always cross at Cornwall On. Every time we have crossed in Quebec the lines have been long and the roads are rough to say the least.
I always love taking back roads instead of hwys. From Weirs beach you can also go to Rutland, Middlebury, Burlington, Swanton or cross the ferry to Plattsburg.
I'd recommend rt 2 north from Burlington to Rouses Point NY, it takes you "through " part of Lake Champlain, it's beautiful, then either take the 15(highway) or map a 2 lane into Montreal
