I have done it top to bottom about 15 times, and I MUCH prefer that highway in the middle of winter, like in February
Bladed smooth, below zero, you can haul ***!

Between '99 and '15 which was my last trip, the stretches of gravel, and construction varied wildly, and everybody has their story of "that 100 miles of the AlCan is all gravel!" and no 2 are ever the same.

Probably have 2 more trips up and back that we have to do. My son is still up there, but is talking about moving down.

When up there, I said a day without rain, was like a day without gravel.

I went up when highway 1 was flooded out, I think near medicine hat, ended up detouring around. I took BC37 home, Cassiar highway, Most remote stretchof road I have even been on.

We drove from Michigan to Alaska back in the early 80's with a motorhome and an F-250 truck hauling everything we owned.
I don't recall seeing a single motorcycle on the Alcan highway during our trip.

I met someone who was riding up and selling his bike, and flying. That would be cool. Though I would be nervous of damagine bike on way up, and deal falling through.

I plan to ride from southern most point in US to dead horse someday on my Harley. Planning to swap out belt to chain at fuelmoto or something that will safeguard the belt. Will have to swap to knobby tires in Fairbanks.

I’m ok with my rwd suspension but looking for something more plush. I doubt there is any other suspension that’s more plush and comfortable.

When I went to Alaska in early June, 2000 I went on my new '00 UC and towed my Escapade cargo trailer.

I rode up with two other guys one of then rode a Dyna Wide Glide and the other rode a large cc crotch rocket.

We basically went to Anchorage first and then headed towards Fairbanks and they rode towards home (on from MI and the other from N.M).

I stayed in AK for a little over two weeks, touring down to Valdez before heading back to store my rig in Fairbanks and flying down to Vancouver to meet my wife for a cruise back up to AK that included a "land tour" and a visit through Denali Park then on to Fairbanks.

My wife flew home from Fairbanks and I rode home but I did "cheat" a bit by taking the ferry our of Hanes, AK down to Bellingham, WA

For the record I tried to avoid riding on unpaved roads as much as possible but back at that time there was a lot of gravel roads an a patch of construction about 25 miles long that was a bit messy due to rain.

IF (ain't likely to happen) I was going to do that ride again....
I'd put as much paint (and chrome) protection as possible on the bike.
I'd take a bike that has tubeless tires.
Would not "overpack" but I would take tools, a tire repair kit, a mini-compressor, a siphon hose.

Leathers, rain gear and a FF helmet are a must.
I didn't have heated seats, heated grips or gloves but I will IF I go again!
