I just returned from my road trip, riding with the Great American Convoy, with Adam Sandoval. Had a blast! Joined in Evansville, IN on 6/10 and rode through KY. and back to Edinburgh, IN on 6/13, where I left and headed home. The ride to Paducah was very wet but otherwise was good weather. Got to spend some time with Adam and met some great people. Over 850 mi. in 4 days was kind of a bucket list ride for me to go on a road trip with a group like that. The group varied from 20 something to 60 something as some left and some joined at each stop, with a core group of about 6 hanging with Adam.
I learned that I liked riding tight at the front of the group rather than spaced out at the rear of the pack. Kind of exhilarating riding 75-80 mph side by side with about 10- 15 ft. between riders in front and behind.
Keeps your mind focused on riding your line and throttle control.
Looks like fun for a good cause. My wife and I are leaving Sunday morning, staying the night in Culpeper VA. Joining convoy Monday morning in Quantico, then Richmond and Lynchburg VA before heading home Tuesday afternoon.
Awesome. I'm hoping to join up sometime. I was unable to when he passed through Southern IL as I had some other obligations. I'm keeping it on my radar and hope to maybe jump in when he's up in Michigan or NW Indiana and riding back toward IL. We will see.
My wife and I met up with Cosmic Razorback and Carolina Girl on Sunday and headed to northern Virginia. Rode with the Convoy on Monday/Tuesday. Condensed version: Good food, good fun, great company, bad weather, horrible traffic, met awesome people, great experience. 719 miles total. I'll start another thread about the trip, and I'm sure Mark will as well. Here are a few pics.
