Default Olympic Loop

My brother and I took off from Longview WA and headed north on mostly secondary roads to Oakville and then west toward the beach, turned south a ways and then east to Brooklyn. A VERY small town with the only business in town being a really old cool tavern which of course we had to help support, good road and ride and well worth seeing. Headed back to the coast and north to La Push and stayed at the Cycle Camp and enjoyed Bob’s annual Rain Forest Run for a couple of days. What a great place with friendly people, live music, two good dinners and quiet camping. We went to a car show and 1/8-mile drags, both in Forks. We looked but never saw any vampires, but then it was daylight! The next morning, we took off north and went to Cape Flattery and hiked out to the NW point, it was a good ride and hike with a great viewpoint. The only downside was the $20 per vehicle use permit that the Makah Tribe charged to ride on out to the point.

We then headed east to Port Angeles and started up to Hurricane Ridge. We stopped at the Ranger station and asked why the road was closed and were informed that since the lodge burned down, they only had enough port-o potties to serve 350 people per day and usually reached that number by 11:00. I tried to make the argument that probably some of those had already come back down but it didn’t fly.

We checked in to our hotel, got some dinner and relaxed a bit. The next morning, we wandered back still on secondary roads, had a parting beer and headed on home.

It was about a 700-mile ride, the roads were good, the people we met were great, the weather was perfect, the bikes performed well, only one minor traffic scare, yup, another really great trip.

It's a good run. Have not done it in a few years, thank you for the reminder!
