Getting closer so we are setting up where to stay.
As a central location for a couple days which one?
Ouray, Telluride, or Silverton?
Ma Ma is leaning towards Telluride. She likes the gondola idea to get around while not riding.

I have stayed in Cortez… Grand Junction… Durango… Steamboat Springs… Idaho Springs… all of them where just one night stop overs in Mom & Pop motels… eaten in the closest restaurant and gone first thing in the morning…

I drew an imaginary X of the Rocky Mountain parts of Colorado… And right in the centre is Gunnison… And when I look at the map, I think it would be a very good central place to stay if you wanted to reach out and do day trips…

… i’ve been to Colorado twice… The first time it was for four days… The second time it was for three days… I barely scratched the surface… Although I did do some nice roads and mountain passes…

We have one night at Estes Park and plan on 1-2 in Moab.
Plan on at least 3 maybe 4 in the San Juan Mtn area hence trying to pick the best town of the 4 mentioned above.

I went through both Montrose and Gunnison… neither of them stuck out as a place I would go back to visit… I thought Idaho Springs was a **** hole… Steamboats pretty far north as a centerpoint… And Durango is pretty far south for the same reason… Grand Junction was a nice place to drive-through and get a motel… But again nothing stuck in my mind as a place I want to go back to for any length of time…

… I still think Gunnison as a centerpoint if you can find accommodations that fit… It’s either that or you’re gonna be staying in an expensive ski place like Aspen or Vale…

I had a quick look on bookings at both places… Montrose has some real nice mom and pops, and is less money by far for a night

Be aware of your altitude. Might want pickup some oxygen bottles at Wally World. Place like Telluride, Breckenridge and highway 550 are pretty high.
If you feel a little queasy might want to take a few hits off the oxygen bottles.
Don't know the year of you bike but you make have the ability to display altitude on your radio
