I live in cental Ohio most of the time and I agree; those rides are the best. All kinds of surprises; often, you get to the top of a hill, and you don't know if the road will go right or left. You just know it will turn. Very exciting.
We live just over an hour from the Nickel. All of the Windy 9 is available to us on any given day. We've been on 100% of it and multiple times. 555 gets most of the attention of course, but...trust me...there are other roads which are just as challenging and fun to ride. No point running through all the great routes. Many of them are not part of the W9. Routes in Scioto, Gallia, Lawrence, Pike, Adams and Highland counties are outstanding rides. You just have to string them together for an all-day adventure. I sometimes think it would be fun to plan a 3 day tour of southeast Ohio for maybe a half dozen bikes. There are more than enough roads and miles to wear everyone out, and there are 4 dealerships to access in that area.
Yes...Ohio's hill country is becoming a ride destination. It's no longer a secret. What isn't so well known is how technical many of the roads are. Blind curves and big sweepers. Roller coaster hills we like to call 'ribbon candy'. Sharp hilltops followed by a fast low-G drop into a downhill curve. Forests, farms and small towns. Lots of wildlife. Covered bridges and scenic river crossings including a couple ferries. Better make plans and gitcha some. 😄
