Default Laughlin, NV area

Hubby and I are in the preliminary planning stages of our winter '08 vacation. Last year we were fortunate enough to enjoy 7 weeks of spendor around the LasVegas, California Coast and down the Baja, andPalmspringsareas. This year we are kinda think'n we might try renting a house or a condo in the Laughlin area for a couple of months (maybe 3). Anyone got any advise for us?

You might consider Lake Havasu city as an alternative.

Unless you like to gamble or want to go the River Run, skip Laughlin and go on to northern Arizina and southern Utah. The two lane blacktop and the scenery around around Williams, Flagstaff, Sedona, Zion, Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon, Monument Valley, Sedona, Jerome, Winslow, Moab, Canyonlands, Arches, Show Low is just fantastic. The accomodations along the way can also be first cabin or economy as you desire. My better half and I are hitting Moab, Canyonlands & Arches next month and otherwise have done all the rest. Have never been disappointed. If you need recommendations email off-forum. I think you can do that with HDForums. Bill

We are open to options. Just want some place in that general area to settle down for the time being and do some riding. Thanks for the tip.

The wife and I go to Laughlin a couple times a year, usually to catch a show. You can find some of the travelling acts that stop in Vegas for about 50% (or more) less in Luaghlin. We like the comedians and good bands.

We've stayed mostly in the casino/motels, but over time I've met a lot of folks that live around there. Right now decent houses in Bullhead City (where a lot of the dealers and casino workers live) will run $1000 a month and up depending on your needs. One of the dealers I know done there has a decent house for rent. It's 1500 square feet, 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage for around $1300, but I think he's planning to drop it to $1100. Kevin A. Barbarita -- the broker -- at (888)311-9538.

Here's a few things to see if you're in the area:

1. London Bridge ... Lake Havasu City. http://www.lakehavasu.com/ -- Lots of things to do and see around here. I especiall like the shoreline along the river, and you can find some great swimming spots. There are also are some good spots for a boat both on the river and lake. If you really like Lake Havesu then check out some the rental property there. First Choice Management & Sales in Lake Havasu City, Arizona (800-759-3686) has some decent listings for "vacations" houses running $1300 to $4000 month.

I like the one above, which rents for $1800/month (weekly and daily rental also available). If you want more then step up to one of the many houses of similar size but that have pools. A friend recently rented a nice 4 bed/3bat/4car garage with pool and spa for $2200 month.

While in Arizona visit Providence Mountains and Mitchell Caverns which isin the Providence Mountains State Recreation Area.

If you haven't tried yet then take a look at the Queens Condos in Lake Havasu. 41 Swanson Ave. Suite 1 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona 86403 ... http://www.lakehavasuresorts.com

Of course, since you're heading that way to ultimately ride then try this highway ...

If you really want to take an aventurer rent a couple dual sport bikes from
MOTORCYCLE RENTAL Phoenix / Scottsdale, AZ, (888) 233-6371. You can get a Suzuki Bergstrom 650 for only $79 a day, and a less for a multi-day rental. You can also renta Halry Gold Wing and a BMW touring bike for $79 a day as well. Basically you can get this bike on these roads for $80 and for only $40 to $50 more you can also get a decent room in the area.

Vegas here bikergirl40, and have access to rates at a pretty nice friendly hotel. If you're going to light down in Vegas for a day or two or more, please let me know. I'd love to ride with you. I have about a half-dozen 250 mile-or-so day rides that will take you through some nice places and good riding.

Not much in Laughlin unless you want to gamble or run up and down the river on a boat. I would go for the suggestions of Arizona and Utah scenic highways, especially if you are goign to be riding.

I think that after 3 months in Laughlin you would be bored out of your mind.

Thanks for the info...I have been getting that a lot since I 1st queried the Laughlin area. I think for the most part, the advise I have gotten is it's better to go down and ask around for prices after checking out the places. Which I think is what we might do. I can only imagine what we might end up with when booking over the internet. I know, I have done that with a couple of holiday resorts and they look nothing like their brouchure pictures. Yikes! LOL
