Sturgis 2007
Sturgis 2007[/b]
By Brian De Nike
I began planning my ride to the 2007 Sturgis Rally back in November of 2006. When the time finally came to embark on my journey, I had 3 other riders accompanying me.
Roy, on a ’02 RKC, Dan, on a ’05 Ultra, Steve, on a Suzuki Hayabusa – not sure what year - and myself, on a beefed up ’05 RKC. We all met in Corona, CA on Friday August 3rd at 6:00am.
We rode hard the first day, ending up in Provo Utah, roughly 660 miles from So Cal. Mainly on I-15, which is very nice from Mesquite, NV through northwest AZ into St. George Utah. We drank a lot of beer and wiped out 3 pizzas at our hotel suite that first night in Provo Utah.
Day 2 found us riding another 650 miles or so through Salt Lake City, through southern Wyoming to Hot Springs South Dakota, south of the Black Hills.
Day 3 we started the day riding through Custer State Park, where the buffalo walk right past you. Man, those are some big beasts! From there we went to Crazy Horse monument, which is still under construction. It is awesome now; when it’s completed it will be spectacular.
Toward the afternoon, we ended up at a roadside bar-b-que and beer joint, where we all had a couple cold ones with a burger. As we fired up the bikes to head toward our cabin, Steve’s Busa wouldn’t run. We spent a couple hours messing around with it, but to no avail. He had it towed to Rapid City, where it would remain for 3 full days. What a bummer for Steve.
The next 3 days were spent going in and around Sturgis, where we saw plenty of the 3 B’s: *****, bikes and beer. I usually headed to the cabin before dark, due to the fact that I didn’t think it wise to ride 50 miles from Sturgis to our Black Hills cabin in the dark, after many cervesas, and then tackling the 4 miles of uphill gravel road to our cabin. My riding buddies called me a *****, but I thought I was doing the wiser thing.
During those 3 days we also saw Mt. Rushmore, which made me happy to be an American. What an incredible place. Hell, they even sell cold beer there!!
Other things of interest we saw were the many bikes brought by the various vendors throughout the country. The “Boss Hoss” with the 502” Chevy was the ultimate for me. The ground shook when they fired it up.
The Full Throttle Saloon is a place I could live at. Everything a man ever wanted could be found there; beer, babes, bikes, ultimate fighting, live bands and good food.
One Eyed Jacks Saloon in Sturgis is the single man’s paradise. Several levels with at least 12 separate bars each featuring at least one scantily clad waitress. Let me tell you, some of these ladies were smoking hot!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I'm heading to Sturgis this year for the first time from Virginia. It's sure to be a great trip, not just Sturgis, but also the riding to and from.
