Default Nova Scotia?

Anybody here live in Canada, Nova Scotia or been to Canada & or Nova Scotia by means of bike? I've been asked to join in on a ride to Nova Scotia for the 18th Atlantic HOG Rally via some kind of a 55mph ship from Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

My question is would I have any problem getting in to Canada with loud pipes and no EPA crap on my ride? It is legal to run like this for nowin Indiana but, do not want to make the trip up there to be turned away atcustomsdue to vehicle infractions for that country. My bike is not that loud but not quite by any means, V&H BSS with stock baffles.

Thanks For Any Help,
Dan

I rode to Maine from SCand caught the CAT Ferry over the Yarmouth, NS last year. Spent a little over a week in Nova Scotia. I don't think I passed but to Police cars the whole week. The Cabot Trail on the north end of Nova Scotia is a must do. My bike has SE exhaust and the other two bikes with me had "modified" non standard exhaust. We had a great trip, other than rain.

One big thing is to make sure you have the correct insurance coverage up there and also if you ever had a DWI or a convict you may not be able to go into Canada. Check and know the laws before going.

How long is that Ferry Ride ?
From Portland - less than 6 hours; from Bar Harbor - less than 3 hours.

Here's a link to their Web site.

My wife and I rode that area few years back. I don't think you will have muffler related problems but I would suggestobtaining some of thier money,Wealso came up on some who spoke little orno english.
We were advise by locals riders to skip Nova Scotia and ride the coast to kouchibouguac N.P. instead. I regret skipping Nova Scotia.
When you get to Bar Harbor, check out Acadia N.P. Thething I will never forget about the Bay of Fundy, when the tide goes out it really goes, I mean all the water is gone.

Thanks for the info, I know they have vehichle inspections over there or at least that'show the rules & regulations page on the HOG members site reads about Nov Scotia. Sounds like I would not have a problem unless I lived there and tried to pass a inspection. According to the web site for the ferry boat Cat it will be $176 to Yarmouth from Bar Harbor and since their schedule does not fit mine on the way back I will have to go Yarmouth to Portland, Maine for $239.

Thanks to all for helpful tips,
Dan

Live in NH and go North occasionally. First, August is best month. Skip NB for NS. Once accross into Canada, our friends up there are way cool and friendly.
I pesrsonally love the Bay of Fundy side on way up. Check it out. Then ocean side going south.
Spring is to early to go. May is cold when raining. June is same. July can be foggy--WAY foggy.
Also The Gaspe penninsula in Quebec is wonderful. it borders the St. Lawrence River.

Thanks to everyone for the tips, though I think I am going to have to pass on the trip for now. Everyone in the group is set on taking the "CAT" boat over there and since my schedule & the boats schedule don't line up I would have to take it from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth and to get back I would have to go from Yarmouth to Portland and would run around $415 just for the 2 boat rides + the $100 something for a passport. Thats $500 I would rather put into Hotel, Food & Gas so I'm changing gears and looking to go out to Colorado.

Thanks Again,
Dan

You can save alot of FERRY $$. However, you gotta get the ferry that goes to Digby from NB. Two hour crossing.
another WAY cool place up here is Grand Mannan Island--Also Deere Isle
