A good 'home base' to set up would be around Summersville or Sutton (both have dams) or Elkins. \\; This will put you in the region of the Monongahela National Forest. \\; You would be close several great riding areas and scenic attractions. \\; Examples... Senaca Rocks, Senaca Caverns, Spruce **** (gravel road though) Greenbank Observatory, Blackwater Falls S.P., Fairfax Stone (nothing but a rock, but history nun the less). \\; You will find that 4 days won't be enough. \\; I love that area.

I live in WV. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; Ride to the NEw River Gorge frequently. \\;\\\\\\;The riding is great, the views are second to none really good restaurants \\;\\\\\\;and the rafting is the best around.

+1 for the New River Gorge Bridge. \\; It's a great ride and very scenic especially if you head down 60 and then pick up 16 which will put you in Fayettville about 2 miles from the bridge. \\; Head up 19 and pick up 60 for another scenic ride back to the Charleston area. \\; I live right on the Kanawha River just SE of Charleston and have done this route several times and enjoy it more each time. \\;
I thought it was called the New River Gorge Bridge as compared to the old one down below. I read the brochure that I got from the visitor's center the other day and learned that both bridges go over the New River! Doh...
5 days, and we r going to trailer bikes down. about 16 of us, we were thinking one day for white water rafting.
thks
White watering may put you near Summersville (Gauley River) on WV Rt 19. If so be careful, very careful of your speed in the Summersville area. It's a world renown speed trap. Otherwise it's a nice area to ride from. The roads heading east into Virginia will cross a number of ridges and are fun on a motorcycle.
I'd consider taking RT 39 east all the way to Hot Springs VA, then head north on 220 to RT 250 at Monterey VA. Take 250 west back to 28 and take 28 north to RT 33. Take a right (east) on 33 to Brandywine, then go straight (33 makes a sharp left) toward Sugar Grove. You'll pass WV's only Naval Station there. (Top secret.) Ride around the Sugar Grove, Moyers area. There's a nice State campground back on 33 just east of Brandywine. Or from Brandywine you could take 33 W to Seneca Rocks where there's another State campground Seneca Shadows. Both of these campgrounds have hot showers. There's also some lodging around Seneca Rocks. By the way, hike up to the top for a little morning exercise and a nice view. Have a good time!
An absolute must is SR 20 from Buckhannon to Webster Springs 47 miles and the Dragon has nothing on this road!!!!! There are elevation changes, switchbacks, s turns, double s turns.The turns are banked. I can't say enough about this road. I rode 1300 miles last september 1100 of which was in WVA. New River Gorge, Seneca Rocks, Hawks Nest State Park, Blackwater Falls,
Highland Scenic Hwy all were very cool.
