Default Ride to the Wall

Anyone doing the Ride to the Wall this Memorial Day Weekend?

I'm planning to ride with a bunch from Rolling Thunder. Leaving from Indianapolis on May 21 and returning May 26. Got room reservations already! I hear it is a blast and at the same time we can show our appreciation to the troops.

Riding from Indianapolis you could drop down and take Rt 50. It's a pleasant road to ride and goes right into DC. A lot of riders meet there at Captain Pells Crabhouse for great seafood and beverages. It's on Rt 50 in Fairfax, not far from the Wall. http://www.captainpell.com/

I'll be heading there this year for the 2nd time; leaving NH on the 21st! Went down last year and it was amazing, most incredible thing I've ever experienced!!! Make sure to get to the Pentagon early though or you'll be waiting all day to leave... I was there at 8:30 AM and once the ride started I waited an hour and a half after the 1st bike left before we did! So worth it!!!

I was at the wall in '99 but not with the Ride. It is a very emotional thing to see and be near. I approached it alone, early when almost no one was around. I had no idea how powerful it would be. It is hard not to cry openly when you are near it. I didn't bother trying not to. Ride safe to it.

I rode with Run for the Wall last year and did the Rolling Thunder parade. Everyone should make this run at some point. You won't regret it.

Every year since 1991. I've lived in several places over the years, and generally ride to D.C. alone from wherever I am. I visit my people who's names are enshrined on the Wall on Saturday...make the run on Sunday, and head on home.If he's there again this year...Be sure to look for the young Marine standing @ attention,in Dress Blues, rendering a textbook hand salute to the passing flags on so many of the bikes. Give that fine young man a Semper Fi as you go by...

One popular route goes through my town in WV on US 60 and I 64. I am at least going to watch it go by and may tag along for a while through WV.
