Great write up, the Hot Springs sequence was filmed north of Toas a little west and south of Arroyo Hondo on the Rio Grande, down in the gorge. It was, from what I heard an old Butterfield Stage stop. Nice little hike down into the canyon.
Mr Zip, your route is just a little off in Louisiana. The you tube shot in "if 6 was 9" is taken in Franklin Louisiana. It was the old court house being replaced by the new courthouse right behind it. The funny thing is, they were on their way to New Orleans But traveling on Hwy 90 from east to west which would be taking them away from New Orleans. The song starts out on a bridge in Morgan City and travels west to Centerville and into Franklin in the opposit direction. Still agreat movie and I ride the Louisiana route often.

Awesome. Thanks for the updates about Franklin and the Pools in texas. I'll update route. If anyone else has more, please post. It'd be nice to fill in the holes.
Mr. Zip, sorry I made a mistake on the highway number. When it was filmed it was old highway 90. Today it is highway 182. Whats nice about this area, all the homes, stores, grave yards and bridges are still here. Only the old court house is gone. Even the Boulavard with the tree street lights look exactly like they did then in the movie. Ben Franklins has changed its name but main street hasn't changed. The house in Garden City with the American flag looks exactly like it does in the you tube film. They still hang a flag every day. It is like going into the past. It was the old post office. I will see if I can find information on the Morganza cafe. It might be right around here somewhere

Updated the route through franklin. Let me know if that looks more accurate.
Also found out where they got shot, in Krotz Springs. Did some searching on google maps street view and it looked like the place, on LA105 aka Levee Road.
Thanks for the input. Huge thanks to Cajun King who lives in that neck of the woods and is going to get some pictures. Very cool.
