I just did the same from Southern Illinois. It was about 7 hours to Maggie Valley. Rode all day sat. and back home on sun. My first time to that area, I mostly have stayed in the Tellico Plaines area. The NC rodes are much better than the Tenn. side. I will probably try to get down there once a year. I love those short 2-3 day trips, you can get in many a year. Have a good safe ride.
Wow....475 miles today...what a trip....5 minutes of rain and twisties galore.....snake, rattler, 221, 181, shady valley, bla bla bla....tomorrow...more of the same.....
A lot of riders out today! It was 48 this morning in Linville, so I went to TN. and across Roan Mtn. into Bakersville, Red Hill, 226 acoss Iron Mtn. and onto Hampton, TN. and back up 19E into Newland. About 4 hrs ride, made up for all the rain last week! I'm happy with the Train.
Boy....What a ride....1450 twisty miles in 3 days including the ride there and back....Can't even list the roads...too many and for most part they were just blips on the GPS...Some of these roads put the tail of the dragon to shame and with no traffic...Others like 421, 221, 194, 209, 28, 1310, 80, 9, these are just great memories now...Drove my buddies 08 Goldwing in the twisties...i must admit it handles like a dream but it needs pipes is what i told him...All 3 other guys rode my Electra Glide and loved it too...Weather...WOW...5 minutes of sprinkles...that's it...Got back to the hotel at Midnight..that is how far out we were...got home last night at midnight...One of my buddies that rode is having surgury on his hand today so that was the break before the break for him...I wish everybody here the ride like i just had...REALLY...
It was awesome although my A$$ is still feeling it...I may now consider getting a different seat...maybe a SUndowner??? not sure yet...1450 miles of hard riding is really not the way to test a seat so i am not jumping to any conclusions yet....I was told that the hills had rain for the past 2-3 weeks and them BLAM!!! Friday the freakin sun comes out.....We hauled it up there from the eastern part of NC just for you guys...
You guys hit it just right! We had almost 14 inches of rain on Grandfather Mtn. during May, that is the record. The rain came back yesterday afternoon with hail and lightning. Same deal this afternoon, more to follow through Friday. Maybe this weekend will clear out a little...I hope.
....We had almost 14 inches of rain on Grandfather Mtn. during May, that is the record....
Send a little our way. We only got .53" of rain in the Minneapolis area for May with the largest 24 hour rainfall of .20". Needless to say, I've ridden my motorbike to work every day since I got it out April 10th.
Thank you for the warning...We got busted for speed in Gauleu Bridge WV about 8 weeks ago...Hey i always bring layers even in the summer especially in our mountains...I don't really speed a lot...I let the fast wingers go ahead and decoy for me.....
gauley bridge loves to give out those $150.00 awards!
