Me and 3 buds are riding up to Asheville Friday the 29th...Ride as much twisties come back home Sunday....We are gonna take as many back roads and unknown turns as we can....Asheville is a 6 hour ride from here...Leaving Goldsboro at 6 am ride up to Sparta...take blue ridge Pkwy for a few mile then backroads to linville then the Rattler to Morganton...Hotel and good night sleep...12 hours of riding on Saturday planned....Sunday a quick ride and a long detour home....
Wear layers. It has been cool today in Linville, overcast for Friday, 20% chance of rain. Supposed to be warmer Sat.,Sun. Be careful on the Rattler, the NCSHP has been very watchful here lately!
Ride Safe,
MadMax
Thank you for the warning...We got busted for speed in Gauleu Bridge WV about 8 weeks ago...Hey i always bring layers even in the summer especially in our mountains...I don't really speed a lot...I let the fast wingers go ahead and decoy for me.....
Notgrownup, Pick up a western north carolina map or if you have a NC atlas and gazzette bring it . They show many back roads that never show on the regular maps and bolt on gps's don't show enough road to to help. If you don't stay in Morganton try the Sprues Pine area. Several good bike friendly motels from the Switzerland inn and pine valley inn and two more at the parkway and hy-226 corner. This is now a wet county if that matters. The BR is now open to asheville from sprues pine atleast they have the craggy gargen area open to 1 lane for now.If you want to ride some good local roads when in the Sprues Pine Burnsville area contact me. Check PM
Hwy 80 from Marion to Burnsville makes the Dragon look like a kiddy trail.... Then You have hwy 80 north of 19E through Kona (Murder Mountain) and over Roan Mtn back to Spruce Pine. Our NC mtn's offer some of the best motorcycling in the country>
When i took my wife on vacation last week Hwy 80 was the first ride of the day...we rode up to Mt Mitchell and she was like WOW...where did this rode come from....
I used to live for those trips. There aren't many places around here anymore, due to the development in the area. Probably some of the best fishing experiences I ever had were in search of them wily little fellars. That's a nice picture that brought back a lot of good memories!
