Nigara Falls

We want to do a road trip to Niagara Falls from Lewiston-Auburn, Maine. Are there any good side roads or routes to take so we can stay off the main drag.

Yeah Head up to Rt 2 across VT, pick up 100 to 17 cross lake champlain,9N to Lake placid,Rt 3 to Port Ontario,Then 104 which is betting busy in Rochester or hit Lake rd until Rochester, cross the bay on 104 , then up to Lake Ontario state Highway... , The way back Hit Letchworth st park, then cut across the finger lake region,(can use rt 20)until Connecticut...then on your own !!!!

I've been on that route, thru the Adarondacks, and over to lake Ontario shoreline is a good ride..might be slow in some places but view is good. Nice campground where the Niagara river meets the Lake ( State Park)
